foldable bike by
Pascal
Hello,
I'm about to buy a bike and am interested in a "foldable" bike.
I do not own a plane, just use a rental ( Cessna 172 SP ).
Has anyone thought about getting one of these to fit on the backseat of
172 ?
The one I found here : http://www.digitalgiftstore.com/th-367-r.html
is about 45 pounds...

Spoilers, no spoilers? by
Amine
An Air Canada DC-8 crashed in 1970 because spoilers were deployed
before landing, which "by the book" is a definite no-no (cf. Air
Canada 621 disaster). How come the first officer (with over 5500 hrs
with that type of aircraft) made such a decision to deploy spoilers
while still in the air? What...

Bank Check Aviation by
Ron R
The Los Angeles Times has an article about pilots who fly bank checks
around the country each night. With the modernization of check
processing, these flights will be needed less in the future.
"AirNet's 128 planes, many of them speedy Learjets, are small enough and
nimble enough to pack and...

A thousand incursions a year? by
Skywise
Earlier this evening I was watching the program "Discoveries
This Week" on the Science Channel. The first segment was about
the visual laser warning system being put in the ADIZ. All the
reported errors about the lasers I'm addressing in alt.lasers.
However, I wanted to mention here that some...

Fix for too bright GPS display by
Jon Woellhaf
On several flights at night, I found my Garmin GPSMAP 295's display didn't
dim enough to suite me, so I finally decided to try to fix the problem.
I went to a local professional photographer's store and bought a packet of
neutral density filter material for a few bucks. It had 0.3, 0.6 and...

[email protected]
Hello, Goetentag,

Did that a couple of times before but I restricted my airfields to the

Is Charley telling us anything about A/C tie-down? by
Icebound
Does anybody know of any wind-tunnel tests for analysis of tie-down
behaviour? I tried a google search without much success.
Having seen the Charley pictures from Orlando Executive and Punta Gorda, I'm
wondering if we are doing the right thing.
The standard for tricycle gear GA planes seems to...

question about engines by
Cirrus
Ok,this is probably an obvious question to many of you, but I'll ask
anyway. I usually fly in C172s and C182s with the Lycoming oil cooled
engines that many of you are probably familiar with. I still see planes
with the large radial engines (for instance, like what you would see on
a Dehavilland...

Helicopter Buzzes Wal-Mart by
[email protected]
I was shopping at a Wal-Mart on December 17, 2004, when I noticed
outside a helicopter flying just over the tops of the parked vehicles
in front of the store. It was flying towards me, about 20 feet above
the ground and climbing. I got a photograph of it when it was about 50
to 70 feet in the air....

NOTAM: low level IFR pending by
a[_3_]
My grandson, on the cusp of not taking Santa seriously, asked me about
him. He knows a little about aviation slang so I told him that IFR
means I fly reindeer and that it's a special thing the FAA allows at
low levels only one night a year, and that at low level it's not a
threat to other airplanes...

Winter Flying, all over again by
Jay Honeck
So this afternoon was perfect VFR, after the storms of yesterday.
Realizing that we wouldn't be able to fly for at least another week, due to
upcoming holiday commitments, it was obvious what needed to be done:
Fly -- right now!
Problem: Two inches of snow had fallen yesterday, on top of heavy...
