Cirrus for Duats by
Charles
I've been using Cirrus for DUATS over my cable modem for years. My drive
crashed recently and I reinstalled the program. Now I can't get it to
aurtomatically log in and get the weather info I ask for. It just comes to
the prompt and asks for my name. From there I have to type...

High And Low by
SelwayKid
Prompted by a low flying question I thought I'd ask the board the
highest or lowest airport you've flown into/out of.
I've got about 12000 hrs in the lowest reaches of the airspace system
doing crop dusting worldwide, and utility work with helicopters in
same areas. BTW, a couple of those airports...

Flying to Canada in a club airplane by
Andrew Sarangan
If the pilot is not the owner of the airplane, AOPA's website recommends
carrying a notarized letter from the owner or club authorizing the flight.
Everyone I spoke to has never heard of this requirement. Since a club
member is actually a part owner, is the letter still necessary? I...

Request: Technical Proofreading EAA Sport Aviation by
Jim Weir
In the July 2004 issue of Sport Aviation, there was an article published on the
installation of ELTs. I have taken issue with the article with Tom Poberezny
and Scott Spangler, and before I go off half-cocked (how unusual for me) I'd
like some confirmation from this group. Understand that I may...

Cool GA ariport near ABQ by
[email protected]
I'm in the middle of planning my SAN (CRQ actually) to OSH flight.
Day one looks like I'd like to stop some where near ABQ.
Maybe just a bit (100 miles) to the north or east of there.
Any cool GA airports near ABQ?
I'll need fuel and a hotel for the night.

"Proceed on Course" = "Right turn approved"? by
Bob Chilcoat
I took of from Reading, PA this morning from RW 31 with an on-course heading
of 105. As I was cleared for takeoff, I was told "Cleared for takeoff,
proceed on course". In the past, they've also added "Right turn approved".
This time they didn't. I was concerned that I hadn't been cleared for...

Presidential TFRs -- AUGH! by
Jay Honeck
Sure -- the ONE time in my life I want to fly to Superior, WI, in the middle
of absolutely no where Wisconsin, to visit the Bong Museum (BOTH kids are at
camp -- heh, heh) -- and the President of the United States chooses TODAY to
visit Duluth, MN.
Right across the bridge from Superior...

TO THE GROUP by
Today's Curious Question
Well today I'm relaxing watching an old episode of Dragnet, and this
episode involves a drug smuggler who crashes his plane.
So here's Gannon and Friday standing beside it and I notice an N number.
To me the plane looks likes a Piper colt ( rounded rudder ) but in
another scene Sgt Friday says...

If you better economics, start at home by
R.L.
Unlike in medical malpractice, most aviation lawsuits are wrongful death
actions involving dead pilots. And guess who sues when a pilot dies: THE
FAMILIES of dead pilots, blaming the manufacturer for their beloved's death.
So if we want aviation economics to improve, we must prohibit our...

Bockscar pilot Charles Sweeney RIP by
Cub Driver
I just now learned that then-Major Charles Sweeney, the pilot of
Bockscar on the Nagasaki mission, died in Boston last Thursday at the
age of 84. According to an obituary this morning in the Aero-News
email newsletter:
A staunch defender of the atomic missions, Sweeney told Quincy
(MA) Patriot...

Cost splitting for private flight? by
aaronw
Hi all:
I have a question about cost splitting for a flight by me, with only a
private certificate (in a rented plane).
It's fairly well known at work that I do have my certificate and I'll
go up on sightseeing flights with my friends if they're interested
(always looking for an excuse to go to a...

things to carry by
Gary Drescher
A pilot crashed on a NH mountain in fog yesterday. He survived, but his
17-year-old son did not. Rescuers were able to find him in part because he
was blowing a whistle. I just added one to my flight bag.

Stiffed on Ebay by
Jay Honeck
I've only sold two items on Ebay (I've bought a lot, though), so I'm really
surprised (and saddened) to report that I've run into an avionics buyer who
simply won't pay for the item he won.
I listed our old Narco AT 50 transponder (which, BTW, we replaced with a
Garmin GTX-327 -- a truly great...

Madeline Island and Richard I. Bong Museum PIREP by
Jay Honeck
At 6 PM last Tuesday, Mary and I found ourselves with four unique
attributes:
1. Both kids were away at camp -- for a week (that's 168 hours -- but
who's counting?)
2. We didn't have to work for the next 2.5 days.
3. The gas tanks were full.
4. The weather was good throughout the Midwest.
We...
