My tent stayed dry; my buddy Jerry's didn't. He spent half the night in the
airplane (the next night, too).

Taking newbies flying... by
Dan Luke
....offers endless opportunities for screwing up the experience for them, as
I've demonstrated yet again.
My business partner's 21-yr. old son has been hinting around for a few years
that he wanted to try flying sometime. When he finally asked outright to
take a flight, I was happy to agree,...

Can I learn useful things by listening to ATC?
No.
You should spend all your time reading the MSFS manual.

Rental prices in Mobile, AL by
Dan Luke

For comparison to what you may be seeing in your area.
These airplanes receive care that is above average for rentals, at least in
my experience. I have flown two of them.

Flyboys by
Dan Luke
Amazing aircraft performance! For rate-of-climb, a Pitts Special has
nothing on these WW I planes, and they can pull more g's than an F-16.
Also, we see that Hollywood still believes that bullets make sparks when
they hit.
Looks like realism on about the scale of "Memphis Belle",...

Garmin 496 loss of satellite reception--Garmin's answer by
Dan Luke
Garmin advises that the GA25 remote amplified antenna design is known to have
a noise reception/rejection problem.
They are sending me a GA26 at no charge.
Garmin should be recalling all GA25s, IMO, not sitting there waiting for
owners to complain.

Garmin 496 loss of satellite reception by
Dan Luke
Three times in the last two weeks, my 496 has lost satellite reception upon
descent below 2000' AGL.
This occurred in three different locations:
The first time was about a week ago, crossing the western shoreline of
Galveston Bay, just south of Ellington field. Moving the amplified antenna...

Transfering Garmin flight logs by
Dan Luke
Anyone know a way to transfer flight logs (not tracks) from one Garmin
portable to another?
FlightBook will upload but not download. Anyone seen an app. that will do
both?

OSH observation by
Dan Luke
Departing OSH Wednesday morning, the departure wait for light GA peons got
pretty long. I was interested to hear the ever-more-urgent pleas from a
Cirrus flight of four to speed things up because their engines were
over-heating as they sat idling in line.
Didn't hear anything like that from...

Who's busted? by

requests VFR flight following and is assigned a squawk code. The
aircraft is cleared for takeoff and instructed to fly runway heading at

contact Approach but is...

he refused or was unable to...
