Would like to talk with an insurance underwriter..... by [email protected]
Are there any aviation insurance underwriters on the group? I'd like to understand better the factors that go into insuring a customer. For example, I put in a claim for damages which occured during training, when I was not the PIC. I'd like to understand if the insurance underwriter is looking...

Flight planning software the accounts for winds ? by Mike Granby
FlightStar will do wind-aware routing and you can then look at the various atltitude options for time, cost and fuel burn. It's not 100% automatic, but it works great for my needs.

Overhaul information by Jerry Jesion
I was wondering exactly which parts are generaly NOT replaced in an engine overhaul. Assume all new cylinders/pistons/rings/pushrods. I know that the crank is often not replaced if it checks to spec, and the cam may be reground and replaced but what about other parts? Are the con rods usually...

Aircraft rewiring by Brinks
I'm thinking about redoing the panel in the '57 C182A. Since I'm not going to be able to afford to put the latest and greatest radios in, I'm going to have to stick with the tried-and-true equipment right now (Kx-155, KI-209, KMA-24, KT-76, Northstar M3, PS501). Eventually I'd like to get to a...

The A-65 Overhaul/Buy question by [email protected]
Here and elsewhere I've been exploring the possibility of buying an a/c with an A-65 engine which has exceed TBO. We've learned the TBO figure isn't gospel, but it probably isn't a bad idea to be thinking about an overhaul. For the purpose of this discussion, let's assume something has occurred and...

Something else by Denny
Saturday we took Fat Albert and flew from mid michigan to Dayton, Ohio for the world famous Dayton Hamfest... My son and my old buddy Ed went with me... Took 1:45 going down in the early morning darkness, where the dawn is just a band of bluish light on the horizon... Smooth air... But 30 Knots...

C-182 Seats by R.T.
Good day all, I have a 67 C-182. Since I purchased the plane this summer the pilots seat seemed to recline to far back. After some investigation it appeared as though someone had replaced the Pawls that lock the seat in position with the incorrect ones. The ones installed were from a 172 so I...

Updated Oshkosh Frequencies by RST Engineering
I just had an email from a feller that used my Oshkosh frequency list and he said: 133.85 and 126.6 both seem to be used by the Warbirds Airboss. Those will let you know when explosions are coming. If anybody has any more updates, I'm ready to take them and refresh the list.

Damn, The Archer ain't ever going to be good enough again! by Bob Chilcoat
Was in the Bay Area near San Fransciso last week and called an old friend to see if he wanted to go flying. Great, he says, meet me at my office at 4:00 PM and we'll go up. It's an absolutely beautiful afternoon. Cloudless sky, little haze, no wind, and green everywhere (it's the two weeks after...

Sigtronics conversion by Pindon
I have a Sigtronics SPA400 intercom. I would like to upgrade to a stereo system. On their web site Sigtronics states that the upgrade path to an intercom like the SCI 4S is uncomplicated in that the wiring harness from the old intercom can be reused and all that is necessary is to rewire the...

Glue and nails by Mike[_19_]
I'm in the process of rebuilding a wooden aileron spar. The process involves gluing and nailing 2"x3"x1/16" reinforcing patches to the spar. I plan on applied glue and clamped the patches in place; when dry, putting in the nails. What are the nails doing for me and is hammering in nails after the...

Fuel Guages by Mike Rapoport
I just bought a Helio Courier and the fuel guages (actually one guage with a four position switch) don't work very well. Since different tanks seem to work differently I assume that the problem is in the sender or the wiring. Where should I start? does anybody know what the resistance range...
