Is 91.175 enforced in the USA? by
Robert M. Gary
Peter wrote:
This is the reg which prevents flying instrument approaches unless it
is a published one.
In the UK, this is not illegal (on G-reg aircraft). But then we don't
get the radar services here, etc. Pilots tend to fly descents using a
GPS, etc.
In the USA, there are GPS...

Why does a prop ice up so apparently readily? by
The Visitor
Were they the wide cord butcher props? Perhaps they spin slower?
Mine are electrically heated but only the inboard third or so. (seneca)

Comair 5191 HSI Heading Bugs? by
Sam Spade
Anyone familiar with how the autoflight/HSI interface works on a CRJ100
aircraft?
The NTSB just released the factual data on the Comair crash at Lexington.
Following is a summary page from the FDR report:

Does this mean the HSI heading bugs were also set to 226 or 227...

Panel Ergonomy by
Airbus
I am used to flying planes with KX-155/155a and/or G430/530. In either
case, your OBS and VOR indicator are separate from the frequency select
unit. Add to this the fact that many panels are set up with the DME
slaved only to the #2NAV, and you have ample room for error. It's just
easy, in...

Flight planning software the accounts for winds ? by
Mike Granby
FlightStar will do wind-aware routing and you can then look at the
various atltitude options for time, cost and fuel burn. It's not 100%
automatic, but it works great for my needs.

Any way to view Jepp "Text Pages" CD? by

Those PDFs are driven by the "TEXT" tab in JeppView. Click on the "TEXT"
tab and you will be led to a series of pages that are similar to the NOTAM
pages in a Jeppesen paper subscription

MSP or SGS by
Doug Carter
We will be going to Minneapolis next week in a Skylane. Our destination
is about four miles South of MSP; a lot closer than SGS (which seems to
be the next closest airport).
Will the "big iron" operations at MSP make its apparent time advantage
over SGS moot?

FAA AND BUSH BS PUBLIC OVER MILITARY AIR ROUTES
By now the last scraps of turkey have been gobbled up, the
travelers are back in their home towns, and the President
and the FAA spokesflack of the moment should be getting
ready to saunter up to the microphones and declare "Mission
Accomplished"...

"FAA Administrator Marion Blakey said the crash of Comair Flight 5191

Another Weird KLN94 Problem by
gwengler
I had a bizarre problem on my KLN94. The display itself is totally
fine (i.e. the moving map shows everything correctly, all pixels are
OK); however, on almost all other text pages, there is information
missing. For example, the groundspeed is not showing on the NAV page,
or a frequency on an APT...
