Exhaust Valves by Boelkowj
I am having my 0200A top end serviced for new rings, "miked" out for tolerances and valves looked at and replaced as needed. My question is with 650 TT on the engine can a careful visual by the certified overhaul shop satisfactorily determine that the exhaust valves can still be reused rather than...

(sorta OT) Free Ham Radio Course by RST Engineering
With the crossbreeding of amateur (ham) radio operators and pilots being something on the order of 25%, this is only slightly OT. There is a free online ham radio course being offered and sponsored by RST Engineering. It is intended to take anybody with an interest in getting a ham radio license...

V8 fuel flow by Robert Bates
I was reading on a site about someone running a Chevy LS1 that was derated to 320hp and bone stock that was running 10.9 gal/hr at cruise. Does anyone have experience with these engines? If it is accurate, that is quite a savings over Lycoming and Continentals of that HP.

Flying on the Cheap - Again by [email protected]
To All: A fellow homebuilder spotted a female air-hose quick-connect fitting on a fuel I'd just finished sloshing (riveted aluminum tank) and told me he hadn't bothered to pressure-test his tank since it was gravity feed and he figured just filling it up was enough of a test. He went on to say...

Respriator Questions by Jim Carriere
Hello group, Who here has worked with MEK and other wonderful solvents? Where did you get your respirator gear from, and what models? The filter ones available in the chain "hardware" stores have fairly vague specifications on the labels: usually suitable for aromatics, solvents, etc. This is...

You might try http://www.ScienceOxygen.com/aviation204.html It does not provide the answer directly . It is with a collection of links on this field for helicopter design. You might as well just start from there...

EAA Board Of Directors (new rules) by RST Engineering
OK, sports fans, the rules of the game have changed since I last ran for the BOD in 1997. They no longer accept email signatures; they want wet ink sigs. Therefore, we have to play the game a little differently. If you will please email me with subject EAABOD, I will send...

Vacuum Gyro Question by Jim Carriere
This is one of those questions where there must be a simple answer. This is probably the forum to get the best explanation. Why aren't vacuum driven gyro instruments driven by pressure instead? The reason I'm wondering is because about 2" of suction is sufficient to power a turn needle, and while...

EAA Board Of Directors (Here We Go Again) by RST Engineering
I sort of feel like the Harold Stassen of the EAA election process, but here we go again. In 1997, I ran for the EAA Board Of Directors and got some 700 of you to email me your proxies. The vote was 700 to 35,000 for the proxies that EAA held for the current board member candidate. (I ran in...

normal/utility category by AINut
I know it's back to basics, but I still don't quite have this one down. A Mustang II is rated at 1600 lbs in the utility category, but no spec is given for the normal category. Normal cat will allow a higher weight capability, AIUI. Is the difference between the two based solely on how hard you...

2 Engines - 1 Prop...ME Rating? by Andy Asberry
I've Googled for everything I can find on 2 engines driving 1 prop. There are several military and civilian examples. Nowhere did I see that a ME rating was required of the pilot. I'm familiar with ME Centerline thrust. Cites, observations and comments please.
