VW Heads -- Part 1 by
Veeduber[_2_]
VW Heads - Part 1
One of the most common errors seen in VW engines converted for flight
is the failure to maintain proper valve train geometry. Valve Train
Geometry is based on a series of dimensions which use the center-line
of the crankshaft as their foundation. In basic terms, the valve
train...

Swizzle Stick Screwdrivers by
Dan[_12_]
I am looking for what we used to call "swizzle sticks." They are
screwdrivers for adjusting multi-turn trim pots. They were plastic
sticks with metal blades which were shrouded in a plastic sleeve to keep
them from slipping off the screw. Any idea where to get them or what the
proper term...

flybynightkarmarepair
Does anyone have in their shop, or have complete access to, a sheet
metal brake, either a leaf/box brake or a press brake, at least 4 feet
in capacity, within a 2 hour drive of Oakland, CA? I need one to bend
up the longerons of my project. Contact me offline if you do.

Testing Stick-built Ribs by

Hi Guys.
Does that title tickle any memory-bones?
Well, let's see if I can tickle them again. First-off come the ground
rules: The data came from "Handbook of Instruction for Airplane
Designers, Structures Tests" Air Corps, U.S.Army (Not available to
the public)
....and apparently not...

The Bounsall Prospector is back by
canuck_bob
The Bounsall Prospector is available as plans again. The site says
the plans have been redrawn professionally. Nice looking little plane
but unsure of its performance. Any opinions?

Chuggers-alt, Building the Box Store Bomber by

To All:
I have been storing my engine building information in files intended
for use with home-built airplanes. But engines are pretty much the
same, for airplanes or cars. You're welcome to join but the Chuggers-
alt. file isn't a chat group like we have here. You have to ask
permission to...

More boat-towed-glider WIG questions by
durabol[_2_]
After searching the literature the closest thing to what we (my
brother and I) want to build is called the "Aqua-Glider" which is made
mostly out of wood. I thought we might copy the design but substitute
materials. For the fuselage and tail we would use fibreglass/foam
sandwich construction....

Testing On The Cheap by
Veeduber[_2_]
So... how strong is your wing?
The only sure way to know is to TEST it.
How do we do that? We roll the airframe over on it's nose, support
the main spar with a structure of some sort... Douglas Fir 2x4's works
okay... then we stack a known weight onto the wing.
Still confused? No problem; just...

reynolds number by
jan olieslagers[_2_]
It's been puzzling me for a long while and there it is again popping up
in the "WIG airfoils" thread: what is this sacred Reynolds number?
I tried our alther friend en.wikipedia but its theory was quite beyond
my level of education* and its examples of oil in a pipe were not really
illuminating...

Pants, not wing spars.
Has anyone ever dealt with 'Duluth Trading Post?'
As some of you know the cancer has caused me to lose about 80 pounds
and nearly 2" in height due to the compression fracture of my 5th
lumbar vertebrae.
Bottom Line: I ain't got NOTHING that fits.

Continental A-65 engine stall? by
Scott[_7_]
Yesterday, I flew to an airport for breakfast and as I turned off onto
the taxiway, the engine quit. It's never done that before. Re-started
fine. Did not quit when I returned to my home airport. Maybe the
turbulence was enough to fix it ;)
Some history...the plane had been sitting for for...
