T-hangar's bi-fold door: Convert to a motorized opening door? by
Peter R.
Here's a silly question: Is there any way to convert a t-hangar's
manually opening bi-fold door to a motorized one?
I just rented a t-hangar that uses a circular chain hanging off a large
pulley near the top of the hangar to control the door. The chain must
be pulled thirty to forty times to...

Speaking of D.B. Cooper... by
C J Campbell[_1_]
Seems some guy from Minnesota, Lyle Christansen, is convinced that his
brother Kenny was D.B. Cooper. Kenny Christansen is in fact a dead
ringer for Cooper, was an army paratrooper, bought a house in Buckley,
WA, with cash that he never explained where it came from, and he worked
for Northwest...

What is a "Forward Skip"? by
Gary G
Hi folks - I'm somewhat new to flying.
I heard references to "forward slip" to get rid of altitude on approach.
Can someone give me the 2 sentence (or how ever many is adequate) to
what a forward slip procedure is?
Thanks!

Kyler's nearest airport locator by
Don P
It was a great tool, even after it got moved over to the new site.
aviationtoolbox.org At any rate, it doesn't work anymore, as
apparantly Rand McNally changed their site over, so the postion feeds
don't work.
Does anyone know of a site that provides this same type of info?

IFR just 5.4% of the time by

As I sit on the ground, on a day off, not flying due to (yet more)
ice, I thought I'd share these interesting results with the group...
Pilots are always surprised when I tell them that Mary and I have
traveled the country extensively by light plane for 12 years, all

Private Pilot without Medical -- Sport Pilot operation? by
Danny Deger
I am a private pilot without a current medical, but with a valid
drivers license. Can I fly under the sport pilot rules, or do I need
to apply for a sport pilot certificate? I have never been denied a
medical.

Backup AI (using solid state gyro) for portable by

Can anyone provide a pointer to some hardware/software usable on a portable

provides a backup AI solution using "solid state gyros" (accelerometers?
altitude heading reference system?). I'm looking for something that I can

Years ago I was leaving Purdue

before the tower opened. (I think I was headed to Hamfest with some
friends. I don't usually get airborne that early.)
As I taxied to runway 5 I heard the local turboprop commuter (Mesaba, I
think) call a taxi to runway 10. I was...

Okay, I've never even had a flying lesson, which
may explain it, but yesterday afternoon I stopped
by a local airport to watch some planes, and noticed
that the tower had them all taking off and landing
more *with* the wind than against it. The wind

US Airways - NEVER AGAIN !!! by
Robert Henry
I used to fly a considerable amount
of commercial. I plan to never fly commercial again. Doesn't matter where
the problem(s) lies, commercial airline travel sucks big time.
Me too - same sentiment. The airlines refuse to adopt SOPs to handle the
weather and FAA issues, imho.
I went full...
