Cherokee Strobe Noise by
Jonathan Goodish
I know that this has been beaten to death, and I have searched the
archives, but I'm trying to narrow my specific case down a little bit.
I have a Cherokee with factory-installed wing tip strobes. I have an
original (1977) King Silver Crown avionics package, including audio
panel, KX170Bs, etc. ...

Time to replace the KNS-80 by
Roger
Well it looks like it's about time to replace the old KNS-80 RNAV.
That thing has had a lot of use, it's getting old, and it's been in
the shop a number of times.
Currently the frequency selector appears to need cleaning, but I'm not
sure how long it has left.
So, I'm looking into a certified GPS...

New artificial horizon - Sigmatek or R.C. Allen? by
David Herman
My plane's artificial horizon - which was overhauled just a few months ago
at a well-known shop - has headed south again. Since it's got a lot of
hours on it now (and at least one overhaul, maybe more), I suspect it may be
beyond saving and I could be looking at getting a new one. If I do need...

Cessna 210 charging problem by
John Clonts
I am now able to reproduce my charging problem.
Engine off, Bat and Alt on:
Bus voltage: 24.8
Supply to Voltage Regulator: 22.6
Voltage Regulator Output to Alt Field: 21.6
I'm thinking maybe I should rig a jumper from Bus to the Voltage regulator
to see if the problem has to do with that 2.2v...

Anyone installed a landing light flasher? by
Mike Noel
I like the visibility of the flashing landing light...they really get your
attention. The Pulsar unit sold by Spruce for about $320 (single light,
mosfet, variable speed) is the only one I've seen advertised. They say 30
minute install for an under panel mount. They also say you simply need...

Bouncing ammeter hand on 76 Warrior by
Leo
Usually the hand on my ammeter bounces for a few moments while taxing
and then settles down at about 20 amps. Yesterday it continued to be
erratic with a few calm moments with the hand indicating 10 amps. The
ammeter has 1976 stamped on the back. Do these things ever wear out?
Is there any way...

Buying a plane versus renting by
RD
Just wondering if anyone has some experience on the above subject. I'm
looking at building up some time (500 hours or more) within the next couple
of years. My two options are to buy an older 172/Arrow etc or just to keep
renting which is very expensive.
If I can find a decent airplane, in the...

Mirror Glaze by
Jon Kraus
I was talking to a fellow pilot last night about cleaning plexiglass and
he suggested using something called Mirror Glaze as a way to get out
minor scratchiing and crazing (or just for a good cleaning). Up to this
point I have only used Plexus or similar products to do our windows.
Has anyone...

Oxygen above 20,000 feet by
O. Sami Saydjari
I seem to recall that my portable 02 system said something about not
being about to go above 20,000 feet with it. This does not present a
problem with my Turbo Arrow since that represents its service ceiling.
Now, I am contemplating a Cessna Turbo 310 R and I am wondering whether
the 02 will be...

Secondary Stall by
w3n-a
http://w3n-a.blogspot.com/2008/12/secondary-stall.html
This stall is called a secondary stall since it may occur after a
recovery from a preceding stall. It is caused by attempting to hasten
the completion of a stall recovery before the airplane has regained
sufficient flying speed. When this...

Belly Cleaning...? by
zatatime
Hi,
I'm looking for ideas on how to best clean the belly of my plane.
It's a Cherokee and is pretty greasy/grimy/dirty underneath. I'm
hoping to find something I can buy from a non-aviation source (like a
supermarket or auto parts store), and it would be Great if I didn't
need any water.
TIA for...

Gear Trouble by
Kobra
Flyers,
This is just a quick flying story some might be interested it.
My plane ('71 Cardinal RG) just came out of annual with a newly over-hauled
prop and hub. The mechanic and I test flew the plane around the pattern.

Beech F-33/B-55 panel upgrade or STC by
Gordon Rich-Phillips
In 1984 Beech did a major upgrade to the panel on A-36 Bonanzas and B-58
Barons, getting rid of the high-mounted throttle quadrant and control column
boom and installing a conventional throttle quadrant and individual control
columns.
Beech didn't make this change to the F-33 Bonanza or the B-55...

Pilot headset comparison - Lightspeed Zulu vs. Bose X by
Kevin Wessell
I have the Zulu and the Bose. I like my Bose but Zulu wins hands down.
Whereas, both have good noise reduction, Zulu is noticeably better in
blocking out the noise. The Zulu has the bluetooth that syncs with the
cel phone. Bose doesn't. Very handy when making a call from the ground
or low...

Options After Items Flagged as Unairworthy (was TBO and Airworthiness) by
JB
(I decided to move this to a separate thread since its a bigger issue
than engine TBO.)
Matt...I read the Avweb article. The author correctly notes that
whether its a car or plane, you should always insist on seeing or
discussing the problems with the mechanic so there are no surprises
later....

mitchell autopilot by
dave
Hello, I have a 59 Bellanca Cruisemaster that has a Mitchell Executive
autopilot in it. To engage the autopilot, you push in a knob on the
left side of the panel just left of the vsi and below the ai. When
engaged it would roll left at about a 20 degree bank, so I adjusted
the autopilot trim knob...
