Welding question - by
Michael Horowitz
In preparation for doing some simple OA welding on a rudder, I've been
practicing on some 4130 scrap. Since there is filler where it's not
structurally important, I"ve been filing the excess material. All
except one and it's as hard as if I were trying to file stainless.
Is this an indication that...

Oshkosh 2008 Photos by
John[_9_]
Maybe I am spoiled. I keep expecting that in this modern age there
will be plenty of photos of an event like AirVenture even while it is
ongoing. The official EAA site is top heavy with photos of mechanical
bulls, past prime rock n' roll acts, and photos of the people that
make AirVenture what it...

Secondary Stall by
w3n-a
http://w3n-a.blogspot.com/2008/12/secondary-stall.html
This stall is called a secondary stall since it may occur after a
recovery from a preceding stall. It is caused by attempting to hasten
the completion of a stall recovery before the airplane has regained
sufficient flying speed. When this...

Navion Maintainance by
PiperSeneca@
Thank you for the excellent info on parts availabilty. On a similar
topic, are there any maintenance trouble spots on the older Navions?
I was told that the hydraulic system is leaky or troublesome. Is this
true, how bad a problem is it and are there any other areas of
concern?

Why were almost all of them scrapped? by
[email protected]
Didn't ANYBODY after WW2 have the love of airplanes and the foresight
to buy at least one military airplane, especially since they were so
cheap? What were they thinking?! Did they not see the value of these
planes for future generations? Why didn't some civilians simply buy a
B-17 for $700 and...

Rolls Royce Meteor V 2 engine from a Centurion tank by
The Raven
Can anyone tell me how similar these engines were to the Merlin? I know they
were a derivative but being intended for ground use may be so totally
different as to be useless for any aviation application.
Why do I ask? An acquaintance has just acquired a complete Meteor engine and
is looking to...

restoring a DC9 restroom... at home by
[email protected]
I want use my home workshop to rebuild an old, junked restroom from a
USAF DC9.
The milspec drawings show a slot for "used razor blades".
How often am I supposed to clean out the used razor blades to maintain
airworthiness specs?

Tom Cruise's P-51 Mustang by
[email protected]
I saw his interview with Diane Sawyer last night. They showed video of
him flying his sweet P-51. It's a really nice one. It has "Kiss Me
Kate" painted on the nose. He had Diane Sawyer in the back seat. He
also had two other warbirds escorting and filming him. One of them was
a british warbird, I...
