Aviation Maths for Pro ! by
Paul[_1_]
I'm trying to find out a formulae regarding the gap between Takeoff
Distances by POH and real-life measures. I did the maths for wind,
temperature, pressure altitude, runway slope, weight, etc. It's quite
detailled and effective...
But...
The only calculation I don't know how to "translate" is...

Folks,
My co-owner an I are thinking of doing some USCG Aux. stuff. To do

Cessna buys Columbia? by
John[_9_]
I see on AvWeb that Cessna is, at least, in talks to buy some or all
of Columbia Aircraft. Otherwise Columbia is filing for Chapter 11
bankruptcy. (Is that round #2 of Chap. 11?) Apparently Cessna will
accept product liability for the aircraft built so far and some of
Columbia's debt.
I wonder...

I know that a medical is not needed to fly a glider. Does the same apply to
motorgliders?

interior colors question(s) by
Bob Noel
Well, I'm about to throw some AMUs at redoing the interior
of my cherokee 140 (with Airtex stuff). What opinions do
people wish to share wrt the pros/cons of relatively light
colors for the interior rugs, wall panels, seats? Do the
lighter color fabrics show the dirt too easily?

Any W&B calculators that work in 640x480 on HP4700 PDA? by
Bill
I'm looking for a PDA program that will do wifi to allow duats flight
plans to be filed where there is a wireless hotspot like an FBO.
Probably would work thru DUATs.
Should be heavily template driven so that I only have to fill in a few
things.

OH IO520 or replace with IO550 by
Paul kgyy
Any info about relative cost of a high quality overhaul of an IO520
compared with replacement by a (say) second run IO550?
"high quality" means to me, at least, either ECI or Millennium
cylinders and a nationally known shop.

Which plane? by
tony roberts
A friend of mine who is an experienced commercial and airshow pilot, but
who is not too internet savvy asked me a question today which I couldn't
answer - but I am hoping that someone here can.
He is currently looking to sell a brand new custom built aircaft which
was built with one specific goal...

Shadin flowmeter problems - anyone else sees this? by
Steve Beaver
Just a guess but EEPROM can be very slow indeed. Depending on the exact part
number, it may not even be possible to change a single location in the chip.
This means that you have to read the entire contents (or a large part) of
the chip, change the value you need to update and then write it all...

General Costs by

What are some of the costs associated with owning an airplane?

I'm not to leary of costs such as planned/unplanned maintenance but
admittedly understand nothing of the FAA regulations involved. Is
there some kind of...

New owner glitches on the 175B ( Why didn't they see them?) by
Justin Case
Welcome to airplane ownership. I strongly suggest you join the type
club before turning any blank checks over to your mechanic. What you
are seeing may be an easy fix or a common problem that many have seen
before.

Alternator Issue? by
Jon Kraus
Tell me what you think about this issue:
I flew 4443H ('79 Mooney 201) Saturday morning for a couple of hours.
One time during the flight, for about 5 minutes the High / Low voltage
light was flickering. It did stop flickering, the ammeter wasn't showing
a discharge, and the battery voltage...

Anybody use Airtech Instrument at BFI? by
[email protected]
I took our sick DG to Airtech Instrument at BFI in Seattle. They can
overhaul ours for around $450, or provide an exchange overhauled unit for
$495, which seems like a reasonable price. (This is an Edo/Mitchell vacuum
DG with heading bug for the AP).
Does anyone have any feedback (good, bad or...

warped door in C172 by
[email protected]
The left door of my Cessna 172 is warped. I've tried the benign
options of using wooden blocks at appropriate places and applying
pressure to bend the door. But that didn't get the door back to where
it has a tight seal at the lower side (opposite hinges). There's still
about 1/2 inch gap between...

Need A/P to do pre buy near RDU by
Mike Z.
I would appreciate if someone could steer me to a good picky A+P.
I need a pre-buy done on a 172 near RDU Raleigh Durham.
It would be even better if it was an IA and things go OK we can turn it into an annual.

Maintenance Training by

Hello. I own a Piper Cherokee in NJ.
I am very happy with my mechanic, his rates, my plane and how (knock on
wood) reliable it is. Overall my maintenance costs are acceptable and
well within my budget.
That being said, I want to learn how to maintain my plane and
eventually I want to work my way...
