Separating the men from the boys by

Below is an article written by Rick Reilly of Sports Illustrated.
He details his experiences when given the opportunity to fly in a

Boyington's natural metal corsair? by
old hoodoo
I just heard a black sheep state on a history channel program that there was one paint stripped corsair (in which Boyington may have
flown (in addition to other aircraft) in combat?). Upon a comment it might be too easy to see in the air, Boyington's response that
it might attract more Japs to him...

I wonder what the chances of survival was in the pre-ejection (pre
zero-zero-zero ) seat era was?

Other forces testing US aircraft by
Jim
Over the years there have been several articles online and in print
regarding aircraft from the former Warsaw Pact brought to the USA for
testing. Some even seeing use in dissimilar exercises.
What I've never heard of though is the Russians or Chinese, (others?)
doing the same with our equipment....

[Media] A Marine's journey home by
Michael Wise
I came across this in this morning's San Francisco Chronicle. Not
exactly related to aviation, but its a powerful story. It's too bad the
Chron doesn't have the photos online as well.

"Friendly fire" by

Friendly fire
Supporters of Maj. Harry Schmidt, whom the Air Force is
court-martialing for dropping a bomb on friendly Canadian troops in
Afghanistan, ask this question: Why hasn't the military filed such
serious charges against other pilots in a series of "friendly fire"
deaths in Iraq and...

F-8 versus F-4 by
Doug \Woody\ and Erin Beal
Here's another Hunter Reunion thing.
Met several pilots at the reunion that transferred out of VF-201 quickly
when it transitioned from the F-8 to the F-4.
None of them had ANY interest in going from a fighter to an interceptor.
Was this common during that period? AND was it a mission thing or...

Fallon Naval Air Station by
Austin Powers
I have some spare time and am interested in driving up to Fallon to see what
goes off up there.
Can anyone let me know what kind of flying takes place there and what (and
where) you can see? Any frequencies would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Master Jet Base by
MICHAEL OLEARY
Does anyone know what the criteria are for designating a NAS as a master jet
base? For example NAS Oceana is a master jet base but NAS Whidbey Island is
a premier jet base. Any leads would be great. Google wasn't very helpful.

Question about Rear Admiral, lower half by
Pechs1
Shows ya all how long since I retired. Does O-8, Rear Adm., lower half, wear
one star or two?
When did they stop calling same pay grade 'Commodore'? I know they did for a
while.
Do Commanders of small-ish groups of ships, smaller than a CVBG, are they still
refered to as 'Commodore'?? Even if...
