Backlit panel by
cavelamb[_2_]
I remember Linda Rice's Lockheed had a really cool backlit panel overlay.
The panel itself was heavy aluminum sheet, but then they added a plastic
overlay that had an opaque cover. Legends and labeling was done by
engraving the opaque layer.
On the back side of the there were little cavities...

cavelamb[_2_]
This came in by email this evening.
Anybody heard anything about it?
R
Under new FAA rules, general aviation is about to undergo massive changes, none
for the good, apparently.
The FAA Airports Division issued a revised FAA Order 5190.6B, Airport Compliance

Re-finishing brushed-on AFS/Stewart? by
CB
I'm looking seriously at a project that was covered in Ceconite and
finished with the AFS /Stewart system. The topcoat was brushed on,
with less-than-lovely results. (I feel compelled to name the plane
"The Brush Stroke") It was signed off as airworthy, but I'm wondering
whether re-finishing (as...

*Lovely* quote:
"Newer models of the 30-year-old plane are known to be finicky and even
have engine problems, said Norval Dawson, 74, a retired flight
instructor from Cortez.

Aircraft antennas by
ccwillwerth
Hi, I am about ready to cover my Cub type airframe, but need a place to
attach a com antenna. I was considering brazing a plate to the airframe so
that it would be just under the fabric. The antenna is the type that has a
ceramic insulator on the bottom of the antenna that insulates the...

12 to 24v up-converter by
ccwillwerth
I am trying to build the Jim Weir/Kitplanes June-06 "Quick and Dirty 12 - 24
Up-Converter."
1. Can D101 and Q101share the same heat sink electrically or must they be
isolated?
2. I can not locate a "resistor form." Can R101 be wound around a dowel
or other object and installed like a...

Airborne DF by
ccwillwerth
Hi All,
I am fitting my homebuilt with instruments and radios, and wanted to add a
Direction Finder. I wanted a doppler type, but with small antennas in a 4
point aray with a small dimension or distance between the antennas. Am I
really far out of reason, or is this an achievable goal?

Instrument Panel by
ccwillwerth
I am to the point that I must cut the holes in my panel. Does anyone know
of a source for full sized instrument faces in paper or something. I would
like them to place on the panel to have a full size view of the layout
before cutting. The layout could be shifted around until I find the...

Volt/Ammeter by
ccwillwerth
In Kitplanes January 2002 issue, Jim Weir wrote on how to build a
volt/ammeter from a Radio Shack 910-4919 digital voltmeter. The Radio Shack
people advised me that they no longer carry the voltmeter. Does anyone know
if there is a substitute? Can one of these cheap multimeters from
throw-away...

Volt / Ammeter by

How is a shunt determined for a digital volt meter to determine amp? Can a
voltmeter that is using the measured voltage for its own power be set up on
a shunt to measure amps?

Electronic design considerations by
CD
Hello,
I'm curious about avionics circuits in high altitude conditions
(60,000ft+). What kind of design considerations are taken into account?
I've heard about radiation effects on certain devices especially
computers / microcontrollers, but I'm also curious about other
factors.

Newbie Question, really: That first flight by
Cecil Chapman
A question I've always wanted to ask homebuilders is based on how I can see
one could go through the process of building through lots of hard work and
dedication - but how do you get yourself to do that first flight? I would
think a thousand questions would fill one's mind (ex: did I tighten...

Old Plans, New Part Numbers by
[email protected]
I am working with 40 year old plans that call out AN365-6 Nuts.
Since they are used in conjunction with AN6 Bolts (24 of them) to
attach the main spars together, I am assuming they are locknuts.
Is the AN363-624 Metal Lock Nut a good match or good substitution?
Gotta have something to hold 49 feet...

Racing Airplane Questions..... by

I've got two questions some RAH folks might be able to answer. I've done some
googling with no luck...
What does/did(?) the Parker JP-350 look like? It seems it was a homebuilt
unlimited racer with a big engine. Are there any pics out there? The American
Air Racing site didn't seem to have any...
