First flight by
Dave Hyde
I (finally) made the first flight of my RV-4 today.
12 years of building, 0.3 hours of flight time g
Everything was pretty much as expected. After
quite a bit of thought I decided to make it short
and circle a few times over the field just under the
STL class B floor. The temptation to leave...

Suitable coating for spring-steel wire? by
Wright1902Glider
This will be an odd request since solid-strand spring steel wire hasn't been
used in a/c for nearly 80 years. Here goes:
I'm using 15ga. solid-strand spring steel wire in my Wright 1902 glider. It
was shipped with an oil-coating that held up for a few months. Problem is that
the oil did not...

Chat room & BBS by
Brett
I just wanted to let every one know I set up a BBS and a chat room (if
you want to talk to someone in real time) on my site. And I would love
to see people start using it. I know you have this one but stop by and
check it out. No ads and no password or forms to fill out. I set it up
like I think...

Aviation Story by
jls
A friend from Texas who worked for the railroad and liked to fly his
supercub along the tracks decided to have a little fun one night. He flew
just off the ground down the tracks and just before he got in sight of a
freight train roaring down the tracks, he turned on his landing light...

How much faster w/o slats? by
[email protected]
Howdy,
The Zenith Aircraft CH701 is a neat little two place STOL machine that employs
leading edge slats that are permanently deployed. Top speed for the little
machine is 95 mph.
Any idea of how much faster it might be if the slats were removed?
Anyone ever tried this?

Lathe Help by
Bruce A. Frank
I have come by a lathe that has some electrical problems. The unit has a
2 hp 3 phase 220 volt motor. One of the magnetic relays was burned out
when I got the lathe. I replaces the relay, turned the switch on and the
brand new relay burned up also. Though the lathe came with most of the
tooling...

Any good online resources concerning the design of ducted fans? Hoping to
one day acquire a text on ducted fan design. I've used search engines just
wanting to know if there is something uber-good that I've missed. Thanx.

Air Conditioning System for Homebuilts? by
JPAviation
Hi,
Here is a new design challenge for those of you with homebuilts with all the
bells and whistles.
The 2004 Toyota Prius hybrid car has a Denso electrically powered air
conditioning compressor that apparently does not need to be mounted on the
engine. This offers the possibility of reasonably...

AEROBATIC LEGEND DUANE COLE PASSES AWAY by
Fitzair4
A very good aerobatic instructor.
Duane Cole was not a show off-stunt airshow pilot, with engine noise,
but a very good performer, teaching pilots how to keep control
of the plane when doing aerobatics.
I watched him many times since the 1968 EAA Rockford days.
Thank you, Duane Cole for your...

Minimum bending radius for 0.050" 6061-T6? by
Bob Chilcoat
I scored some of the above sheet. I need to fabricate an approach plate
holder for my GPS yoke mount. Any idea if T6 will bend without cracking?
If so, what minimum bending radius should I aim for to avoid cracks?
