Alodine Max Setup time by
JDupre5762
I saw an article that says to not let Alodine sit for more than four
hours after application. One question is, does the group agree with
that? Second, if you don't get primer painted by that time, do you try
to wash it off, reapply, what?
The proper application of alodine is after...

personal property tax on homebuilt aircraft by
Stu Fields
Jim Weir: I believe that you made reference to an exemption from personal
property tax assessment on the basis of less than 5 aircraft of a specific
model being made? Can you provide a reference to the tax code where that
is defined? (I hope that this applies to California??)
Stu Fields...

Alodine by
Pat Yearick
I read an article that said that you should paint a part before four
hours (max) of applying Alodine.
What do you do if you don't get it done in that time? Wash it off,
sand it off, paint anyways?
Thanks

Substitute for Mahogany plywood by
Kelvin & Janice Rempel
Does anyone here know if Lloyds 1088 Marine grade Okoume plywood would be a
good replacement for Aircraft grade African mahogany? The Okoume used water
proof glue and is boiled in water for 3 hours just like Aircraft grade
plywood. The price of mahogany appears to be going through the roof and...

Electronic Ignition by
Andre
Hi All!
My Sonerai is currently equiped with dual ignition. I've got a slick
magneto running off the flywheel end as well as a normal stock
distributor (that has been shortened somewhat and fixed timing) in
the normal distributor location.
The thing I don't like is the magneto hanging halfway...

Jabiru V Rotax reliability? by
Joe
Looking to buy either a Jabiru or Rotax 4 stroke engine.
RELIABILITY is the most important factor.
Seems like the Jabiru should be better with lower RPM but believe that Rotax
have more engines in service and therefore more development time and hence
reliability.
Any comments welcomed.

Sizing motor capacitors by
Ron Finet
In the course of my scrounging, I often come across old fractional HP
electric motors with capacitors that have leaked out or for some other
reason are not working correctly. There is rarely any information on the
nameplate as to the value of the capacitor, and any value stamped on the
capacitor...

Corrie
Is there a US supplier for the two-part adhesive system Aerolite? So
far it only seems to be available in the UK, exported only in large
quantities. Any place to get a small quantity (eqiv of a pint) to

Welding techniques for 4130? by
Building The Perfect Beast
I am going to begin an aircraft project this winter and it looks like I have a
LOT of welding ahead of me. I'm curious as to the different methods, ie
brazing vs. arc, etc., and what the benefits or drawbacks of each method may
be. Is one style better? Stronger? Easier? I will be working with...

I expect to get my PPL soon and serioulsy consider to build an

for help from you, the veteran builders (both skills and age. I am in
20s and I read the average age of kit plane builders is over 50--this
scares me.) Here are my...

Awesome, free anti-virus program by
Ken Sandyeggo
I've been using the free AVG anti-virus program for probably a couple
years now. It runs automatically at a time you set and upgrades are
frequent and free. It has caught several viruses. I installed it on
a friend's computer who had Norton running. After I installed it from
AVG's website, it...

It's that time of year again. by
Capt. Doug
Well... It's that time of the year again. It's time for my annual
proficiency check. Last year I almost crashed. This year was no different.
My helper pilot and I ran through the routines while a check-airman sat in
the jumpseat observing us. We cured hot starts and hung starts. We didn't
forget...
