Jim Weir's strobe design by
Ernest Christley
Jim, you have an article on a design for a strobe on your website. I've
gone to Mouser to get the parts, but about half of them are invalid. Is
it possible that you could do an update on that article, or maybe just
an updated parts list?

Quickies by
Regnirps
I have seen a completed Quickie for sale that no one will touch. The word is
that since it was never painted, there is no way to know how much sunlight (UV)
the fiberglass has been exposed to and no way to test the strength.
On the same subject, has anyone seen a Quickie with one of the new twins...

Tensile Strength Question Continued by
Dick
okay, got pounds per Square Inch and elongation differences and the failure
sequence in my noodle.
For simplicity, let's use 120,000 and 80,000 psi numbers.
So if the 120,000 # piece is .667 square inches
and the 80,000# piece is 1.0 square inch,,,are the elongations the same???
Thanks, Dick

Experimental FAA Cetification by
fred D
Bought a built experimental powered glider and All I have is a bill of
sale from an individual who is not the builder and does not know who
he was. No data plate, plans or other documentation with kit number.
Is there anyway to satisfy the FAA's chain of ownership requirements ?
It only needs a...

Cessation of Silliness by
[email protected]
To All:
Clearly, it is time for certain members of this squad roon to cease
such silliness as may be infringing on their ability to slip the
surley.
One refrain that is a virtual constant from any home-builder Down
Under when communicating to the same who happens to be Up Over is an
absolute...

" ...but I don't have a lathe" by
mhorowit
In August of '05, Veeduber posted an artical on using a drill press as
a lathe. He describes how to chuck a piece of tubing to turn down it's
diameter. In that case, the center line of the work ran thru the
centerline of the drillpress chuck.
Has anyone seen a scheme for chucking a piece that does...

Slightly OT Fiberglass over foam problem by
Dave Lyon
Hey guys, I've been lurking around here for quite a while to get an
education. I'm building a project that could use a little expert guidance.
I am making a paintball tank. Not the type that you put air in, but the type
that you put people in. :) This is my 2nd tank. I used plywood for the skin
of...

What kind of fuel is the best for the engine?
Which spark plug is the best for the engine?
What kind of a reductor and a propeller is the best?

Foam cored plywood by
[email protected]
I recall a past Kitplanes coverage of a replica P-38 aircraft. The
designer/builder used foam cored plywood strips to build at least the
pilots nacelle, pics were included. Has anyone used this material, and
knows where to order it, and rough cost?
Thanks,
JHG

Soda Blasting by
Scott Derrick
I'm repainting a fiberglass airplane.
Sanding the wings, once removed from the plane is a fairly easy chore,
however sanding the underside of the fuselage and strakes is going to be
a major chore.
A body shop near the airport has a soda blaster that they will let me
use. I've heard of folks using...

Plywood Reinforcements - Wood Structures by
Kyle Boatright
I know I have a reference that gives guidelines on the appropriate ratio(s)
to taper plywood reinforcements (on wooden spars and the like) to avoid
stress concenrations, but I can't put my hands on it.
Can someone either point me to an on-line resource or go over the relevant
guidelines? My...
