Fossett, Fossett, Fossett, .... is he really that great? by
Bob Engelhardt
I don't get it: Burt Rutan designed and built the GlobalFlyer and
Branson financed it - why is Fosset getting all the attention and why
was he the pilot? Is he really that great of a pilot? It seems that
his real fame is as "adventurer". Maybe what he brought to the project
was his name and...

Marine Radar in a plane? by
Jay Honeck
Yesterday, as we were once again flying blindly toward unknown weather, Mary
and I lamented the fact that we'll never have radar on board our Pathfinder.
Too expensive to contemplate. Ditto with the "live uplink" stuff that's
just coming on the market.
So, I thought, why not adapt a marine radar...

CNN uses "special software" for KLEX simulation: Microsoft Flight Simulator by
Mxsmanic
See
http://tinyurl.com/j3hy3
This "special software" bears an uncanny resemblance to the Microsoft
Flight Simulator that I played with last night. In fact, I tried the
very same thing on my PC last night that CNN is now using in its
highly scientific demonstration today. I didn't mention my...

WTB: 135 Ticket by
AML
I am in the market for a 135 operation. I am finding out that going
through the FAA would take about a year and I don't have the time to
wait that long. If anybody has one for sale or knows someone that is
thinking about selling it, let me know.
Thanks

High Blood Pressure -- Part II by
Jay Honeck
As some of you know, six weeks ago I was diagnosed with high blood
pressure, and was prescribed medication. Although the medicine the doc
gave me WAS on the FAA's list of "approved" drugs, the mere act of
taking such a drug would set into motion all sorts of things regarding
obtaining future...

A Jeppesen rant by
Peter R.
Apparently when you are the only provider of GPS data for the Garmin
GNS430, as Jeppesen is in the US, you can afford to have **** poor
after-business hours customer service.
Jeppesen does not offer telephone sales or customer support on weekends.
OK, fair enough since Jeppesen does have a web...

Master Switch by
Lakeview Bill
On an aircraft with separate "battery" and "alternator" switches, should you
turn on BAT and leave ALT off during engine start, or should you turn them
both on prior to start?
A little bit of the "why" on this would be nice also...

Electric flight is coming, but the batteries aren’t ready by

Sorry, but there really isn't much to be gained there. Motors already

Flight Training at 15? by
Jay Honeck
My son is 15. He'll be turning 16 in August, and starting his Junior year
of high school.
He's been flying since he can remember, and has many hours in the right
seat. (He's got over 1500 hours as a passenger with Mary and me.) His first
dozen or so hours behind the yoke were "IFR" -- because he...

hard would it be for someone to get in a small plane and fly over a

Adjustment driver for King VOR head by
Robert M. Gary
My #2 VOR is the older analog King head feed by a KX-170B. It likes to
get out of adjustment. The local radio shop has told me I should get
the screw driver and adjust it myself off the VOT. If you remove the
set screw that holds the knob on, there is an adjustment screw behind
it. However, the...

medical question: childhood heart murmur by
[email protected]
Okay, here's an odd situation.
30-something pilot, been flying a few years, have had a couple of class
III medical examinations; no problems.
On a recent visit home, pilot's family remind him that as infant he had
a heart murmur. There were checkups for a few years, but no
restrictions, meds,...

Wow. Did I actually see some positive mainstream GA press? I thought
it was going to be a piece on how sportpilot planes were going to fall
out of the sky...
Watch Mollers stock take off again. Might break $0.25 this time.

OT - Kane Aero Company by

Maybe a little OT for this group, but does anyone know what happened to

commercial checkride and I have an old Kane Aero MK-6B that I got with
my private pilot kit back in 1977. I got to wondering what happened to
