BA609 Flys Again! by
CTR
My friends at Bell emailed me today to tell me that the BA609 has
returned to flight test. Today it made four flights totaling about an
hour before bad weather rolled in. More should be on the internet
tomorrow. This should put them on track for achieving airplane mode
this summer.
Take...

Engine Out Operation by
Charles Talleyrand
I'm curious. Can a Blackhawk, Chinook, or other large military
helicopter hover with one engine out? What is the procedure for one-
engine-out operations for large helicopters? I assume no one auto
rotates a 30,000 lbs helicopter???
The obvious internet searches didn't help.

Dumb Question by
JohnO
When designing rotor systems, you have to keep the tip speed subsonic
to prevent all sorts of problems and losses that would otherwise occur
at the sound barrier, right?
What about large turbofan engines such as on modern airliners? The fan
tips must be travelling at many orders of magnitude...

Helicopter Jobs by
John
I've been hearing very contradicting statements about helicopeter
jobs.
Some sources say that there just aren't any and the ones that are
there are very low. Say 20-30k a year. However, other sources claim
that pilots are becoming scarce, and that new pilots aren't coming
along quick enough to...

Rec License Requirement Question by
[email protected]
Below is a quote from the FAR AIM Section 61.99 which lists the
minimum "Aeronautical" experience required to get a REC Helicopter
license.
Notice that it never really says anything about helicopters.
Paragraph (a)(2) and (b) are the only two that specifically say "in
the aircraft for the rating...

Addon heli rating, does it require a written? by
Eric D
If you have a private pilot fixed wing license are you required to
take a written test of some type for adding helicopter rating? If
yes, what is the written and is it different then what a non-license
student would have to take?

TRUTH OF THE MINI-500 TURBINE CONVERSION by
Dennis Chitwood
I've just read, with great dismay and disbelief, information which
Rick Stitt and his partner, Andreas, wrote with regards to me.
I'd like to ask...what did I ever do to them to deserve such lies
except give him $22,000 of hard earned cash, a year and a half of my
own sweat, and refusing to lower...

7th flight - 7.9 hours in.. Too fun! by
JIM105
Rule number one. ALWAYS bring your CFI a snack and a drink when you show up.
It's a lot like feeding the animals at the zoo, they still might growl at you,
but they probably won't eat you for dinner.

OH-58 for Civilian use by
pp
Can anyone speak to the problems and challenges that I might encounter
in purchasing a OH-58A+ . I plan on using it for primarily for turbine
training but was wondering if there were any income producing
activities that could be done under the restricted designation.
Thanks

Speaking of POP OUT FLOATS by
SHIVER ME TIMBERS
How many of you saw the shots on TV last night of the
helicopter upside down in the water... in NYC.
Looks like the floats at least kept the machine at the water's surface
as apposed to the machine sinking.
But as a lurker who only saw one shot of the machine.... what do I know.
Where's Micbloo...

Need a help in helicopter crash accident (top urgent) by
[email protected]
Hi,
THIS IS TOP URGENT!..
I have a movie with a helicopter accident. The helicopter crew claims
that the
reason of the accident was a damage on the tail rotor blade. My brother
was a
copilot in crew of that helicopter and I don't have any reasons to
don't believe him and his colleagues. But...

balancing act by
Stuart & Kathryn Fields
Here's one for the pros: I was balancing my tail rotor and had it down to
0.27 ips and still had just a touch too much weight where I had added it.
So still needing to safety wire a bolt that is located in the center of the
tail rotor output shaft, I chose to safety it to a hole 180 degrees from...

Looking at 14 days without activity on this forum. Will that qualify as
dead? I think so. I'll be spending my time over on Just Helicopters
from now on and delete this forum from my favorites.
