Archer Tach Red Arc by Greg Esres
A student has an Archer II that has a red arc painted on the glass of the tach between 2150 and 2350 RPM. The POH makes no mention of a red arc. I'm thinking that either the tach came out of an Arrow (which has a red arc in this range) or some A&P confused the Archer with an Arrow and painted it...

"Aircraft Paint & Prep Booth" experiences? by
Hi all; I'm wondering if anybody here has any experience with "Aircraft Paint & Prep Booth" at the Corona airport in Southern California. How was their work? Did it hold up over time? Also, someone has told me there's a good paint shop at the Sebring, FL airport, but couldn't remember its name. ...

Headset: Unexpected safety bonus by Vaughn
Bought myself a new headset for Christmas. I expected it to just be a new toy, but I was amazed at the increase in understandability. Lets face it, like many pilots looking retirement age in the eye, my hearing ain't what it used to be. Previously, when I got into a plane, I would automatically...

Wanted to ask the group for their pro's/cons between the Cessna Skyhawk and Piper Archer 180. 1) What particular year models are more desired than others 2) Which one is easier to re-sell, and which one has more profit potential? 3) Easier to maintain?

Machine shop information needed. by Dave[_16_]
I have a friend with a Ercoupe whose steering knuckle/assembly has been worn to where it is too sloppy. It's about 2.20 inches in diameter and rotates on the nose strut assy. It's what the scissors are attach to. It either needs to be bushed or trued up and add a bearing sleeve to the mating...

Thinking about buying a Zodiac XLi by Jay Maynard
After years away from it, I'm in a position where I can think about getting an airplane. I want to be able to travel with it, not just fly around the patch. I'm a PP-ASEL with about 170 hours in 172/Warrior/Tiger-class aircraft. I'd love to build, but my work has me away from home constantly, so...

Slaving autopilot to a VOR? by Jay Honeck
My autopilot (2-axis, Piper) is hooked up to my DG, via a "heading bug." Otherwise, it's just a wing leveler. I've been told that this autopilot has the capability of being connected to my VORs. Can anyone outline what's involved with connecting the two? Thanks! --

Battery storage? by Roger Long
We put a fresh battery in our plane for the winter starting season even though the old one was in good shape. On advice from several sources, I put the old one on a Sears trickle charger as a spare. The charger claims to sense the battery condition and be suitable for long term connections. I...

Finally: The right-sized Thielert by Thomas Borchert
Thielert has announced a diesel engine in the 230-HP-range, covering the gap between the existing 135- and 350-HP models. Great news, IMHO, since this is the kind of power many of the planes we fly need. First target for certification seems to be the 182. Time frame is 2007. Nice! -- Thomas...
