Straight-ins at uncontrolled airports? by
Danny Deger
I haven't flown in a while, but am in the market for a used plane.
I recalling hearing somewhere that straight-in approaches are now approved
at uncontrolled airports. Is this correct?

JFK by
Big John
40 years ago today I was ferrying a F-89J from the Maine Air Guard at
Bangor, ME to the Oregon Air Guard at Portland OR. Chugging along at
20K, keeping under the big jet stream blowing east, I was about 150
out of Oklahoma City, my next refueling stop, when ATC came up on
frequency and announced...

ground travel by
twisbar
Does anybody have a good way to get around on the ground to explore? Once I get to an airport, I have to walk because a bike doesn't fit in a 150 or 172! (Rollerskates are Okay but a little weird in a restaurant) I love flying to the islands of lake erie but I want some better ground travel. ...

Scary Icing ATC tape by

severe icing conditions.

Weight and Balance Formula, Can one calculate the envelope by
Joe Wasik
Hello, I put together a quick Excel spreadsheet that calculates total
weight and total moment for a Cessna 172. However, to check the CG, I
still have to take these calculated values and place them onto the
diagram called "Center of Gravity Moment Envelope". Does anyone know
if this lookup can be...

C172 and Spins by
Dan[_10_]
Anyone else have expereince with the C172E (1964)?
No matter what I did I could not get that bird to spin to the right.
Left spins take some work, and power helps (of course).
But right it just wallows and then steep spirals.

Unmanned Helicopter Crashes Into Navy Ship by
Larry Dighera
How many US tax dollars were lost as a result of this mishap?
The article at the bottom of this message suggests that the cost to US tax
payers was ~$27.5 million per aircraft. Of course, that doesn't include the
cost of accident investigation, damage repair,...

Mary and I just returned from a wonderful weekend at the Cherokee
Pilots Association national fly-in, held annually in Osage Beach,
Missouri, at the Tan-Tar-A resort. We had a wonderful time, catching
up with old friends, and making new ones. We bought some cool stuff
from the vendors, gave away...

Piper Pathfinder Article by
john smith
The April 2004 PLANE&PILOT has a review of the 1974 Piper Pathfinder.
A table at the end of the article compares the 74 Pathfinder to the 74
Skylane.
I don't think Jay is going to be flying over Pike's Peak (14,110 feet)
unless he gets a Cessna. :-)

Lots of posters here have fun bashing MX, but I have to say that one of the
more enjoyable experiences I've had lately was sitting in the family room,
in front of the PC. I am working on my instrument ticket. Ove the years I
have collected the CH yoke and footpedals. I have downloaded a flight...

Post-accident photos of RV/TBM Avenger Oshkosh taxi collision by
Jim Logajan
Some post-accident photos (no gore, thankfully) showing the RV and TBM
Avenger were posted on a forum on Doug Reeves' RV website:
http://www.vansairforce.com/community/showthread.php?t=9638
Really gives some perspective on the visibility, or lack thereof, that both
pilots must have experienced.

Clouds and Class B by
Mxsmanic
You've been cleared into Class B VFR, and you've been assigned a heading.
After a while you see that your heading will take you through some clouds, and
you asked to be cleared on a different heading, 40 degrees to the right. ATC
says unable and gives a plausible reason why. What do you do?

Conventional v tricycle gear by

Other than the 'holier than thou' aspects of taildraggers and their
pilots, what are their real advantages? Has it to do with prop
clearance on unimproved fields, or fatter mains being better in that
same environment? Does anyone know if, with the same level of
experience pilots, they have a better...
