History Channel Dogfights - Kamikazes (Season 2 Premiere) by
David E. Powell
Really well done.... worth checking out. From the look at the battle
of the USS Laffey (And US air cover of the day, tactics, the ship
herself, etc.) to the stuff on the Okha program to the look at a
German ramming squadron in the last days of the war in Europe, really
well done stuff.

HMAS Melbourne vs. USS Constellation in RIMPAC 1980 by
KDR
Nobuyoshi Koremoto, an ex-skipper of JDS Amatsukaze that participated
in RIMPAC 1980, wrote in the August 2010 issue of the Ship of the
World that in the 1980 exercise a flight of Australian A-4G Skyhawks
from HMAS Melbourne playing an 'Orange' force carrier attacked USS
Constellation, which was...

HMS Campania (WW I) by
[email protected]
This is my first post in many years. I am looking for any information
about why HMS Campania missed the signal to sortie to the Battle of
Jutland. Most accounts I've found state this as the reason, (one or
two accounts say engine problems.) Her position in the anchorage at
Scapa Flow was stated...

HMS Eagle by

In one of her later commissions HMS Eagle "acquired" a black patch on her
port side, under the crane for the ships boats. It can be seen in the two
pictures on the left hand side of this page...
http://www.hmsminerva.info/photos1.htm Ark Royal didn't have such a patch
as far as I have ever...

HMS Revenge 1916 & aircraft by

While trying to get a better view of a WWI era
British RN BB gun turret, I found:

IMHO a nice set of color line drawings!
OK, not that unusual, both the top (front and rear)
main gun turrets, have wood...

Home Patriot Missiles for Mosquitoes, code name Missletoe by
Dan Jacobson
Gentlemen, I was thinking, in the war against insect pests, what is it
that we have that they lack? Computers.
Not just computers to design fancy pesticide formulas. I'm talking
about something we can activate to zap them while we are sitting on
the couch watching TV.
In particular, mosquitoes...

Horatio Nelson - Battle Painting by
Front Office
I recently saw a painting of Horatio Nelson,
sword in hand, in combat. The expression on
his face is neutral. A commentary with the
painting used the phrase "violence
phlegmatically delivered."
I would like to find a copy of the painting.
Appreciate any leads.

Hornet down @ RDU, pilot OK by
John S. Shinal
F-18 lost power during takeoff at Raleigh NC's RDU airport,
and ended up in a burning pile beside runway 2L - pilot ejected OK,
apparently unhurt.
Hornet is still burning like hell, despite a huge amout of
foam, no injuries on the ground, and a few airliners have taken off
since the accident.

Hornet HUD by
[email protected]
Hi all. I'm just about finished with what I think is going to be a
pretty realisitc freeware Hornet HUD for the MS flight simulator. Being
the newbie wannabe Hornet pilot that I am (heheh), I have a few
questions that may seem silly, but I would like to get some of these
finer details right. I was...

How do carrier-based planes find the ship after a mission ? by
Al Dykes
As an armchair admiral, I've always wondered how A/C in WWII knew how
to find the carrier after being away for a couple hours on a mission.
I assume the pilots were told, roughly, where the carrier plans to be,
but sh*t happens. I always assume the carrier doesn't broadcast any
radio signals.
How...

How do you deploy the Quad Tiltrotor? by
Henry J Cobb
The Quad Tiltrotor is too big to be hangared on any ship the Navy has so
it really needs to operate from land bases.
Would it just be used for delivering people and small items to flatops
(full carriers and Ampihbs) or use the ships as lillypads to support
deep raids?
Which service will...
