Push to Talk Switch by Jackal24
I need to get a push to talk switch for the Cessna's I rent now. I have noticed that they are very expensive for what they are (a switch). Is it legal to build my own from Radio Shack type parts? If so, does someone have the specs? Tyson

Carrying glasses? by Emily
Someone told me a while ago that if you have a "must wear corrective lenses" restriction on your medical and wear contacts, that you have to carry a pair of regular glasses while flying. Is that true? And if so, does anyone have a reference?

What has NASA done for you? by BobGoFish
*NASA or NAACP? * There is controversy as to whether or not space exploration is worthy of federal (tax payer) funding. Space exploration has helped to create many medical advances among other more common household products that we take for granted. Project...

Questions on high altitude pressures by es330td
At low altitudes the rule of thumb is that a one thousand foot increase in altitude results in a one inch of mercury decrease in pressure; at least that is what happens when I turn the little knob on my altimeter. Since commercial planes flight well into the FL300+ range, clearly that rule cannot...

Green Arc Red Zone by john smith
Jack Allison's discussion of the Hartzell AD for his Arrow has gotten me to thinking. What aircraft do you fly/have you flown/do you have first hand knowledge of which have a red zone somewhere in the green arc of the tachometer? For example, I know there are/were certain models of Cessna 210's...

Is a Turn Coordinator an electric motor or powered by fan? by kickinwing
I have always read and been taught that a turn coordinator is usually powered by electricity. Is the turn coordinator, in itself, an electric motor? Or does an electric-powered fan supply the air to spin the gyro? Anybody have any insight for me? Thanks.

Airport Cafe by Jay Honeck
At other times, in other restaurants, he would be the guy to be studiously avoided, like a stray dog that looked friendly. In a freeway restaurant, or a hotel lobby, he would be the old guy that would cause you to avert your eyes and quicken your step, for fear of endless, repetitive...

We can take pictures of objects on the Earth from space that are 2 inch's wide. We can take pictures of objects on Mars that are 12 inches wide. Why can't we find a wrecked airplane in Nevada?? A place that is mostly dirt and sand with very little vegetation? Makes no sense

Another ADIZ violation? by Wiz
All: I heard a lot of air activity over my Washington, DC home today, and was told later by a friend that an 84-year-old pilot had a total electrical failure on the way from Stafford, VA (KRMN), where maintenance was being performed on his plane. According to my friend, the pilot landed at Indian...

Ignition switch, what happen when Left or Right is selected by Martin B
Hello, Here is my question: On regular aircrafts, like C150, C172, PA28, when we perform the magneto check where we select Left, than Right, while looking for RPM drop... what is the switch doing? When we select Left or Right, do we short that particular magneto or are we shorting the other one?

A Random Comment by birdog[_2_]
Just got around to reviewing all the comments under "Simulators". I guess it was inevitable that it ended up as disagreements with MX. While I don't want to get involved with that dead end, I have had an experience that kind of parallels. As I mentioned before, after I lost my medical, I tried...
