Identify this taildragger by
Danl J
I have a friend who bought an airplane in 1962, and he cannot remember the make.
It was a white or cream taildragger with tandem seating and a control stick rather than a yoke. It was a high-wing airplane, and it was easy to fly.
He bought it when he was 15, for $600, and his only training was...

Bose X - $995 and holding... by
[email protected]
I've flown with the Bose X in my pal's Navajo (he has two up front and
two Sennheisers in back) and love it. The thing weighs nothing and the
sound quality is fantastic (esp with the CD player piped in). My bitch
is they're twice as much as the next cheapest ANR headset and by now
I'd figured the...

Helicopter Question by
Jay Honeck
As we were flying over to Newton, IA today, we started discussing icing and
snow -- something that we must constantly worry about in these parts for at
least the next 4 months.
As we were talking, we heard a "Flight for Life" 'copter on Unicom, which
got us to wondering how it is that these guys...

NASA chokes again by
Jay Honeck
After more than two years, and less than a month from scheduled launch,
NASA decides to pull the shuttle off the launch pad, transport it back
to the vehicle assembly building, and install a HEATER?
This took two years to figure out?
I swear, Gene Kranz must shake his head in disbelief at what...

AOPA supports cell phones in GA aircraft by
Cub Driver
From the Aero-News Propwash newsletter this morning:
AOPA Lobbies Congress For Cell Phones In GA Cockpits
Aviation Advocacy Group Says The Time Is Now
General aviation pilots should be
able to use cell phones in the cockpit while they're airborne. And
they should be able to do it now. That's what...

Amazing Wind Shear Today by
Jay Honeck
We flew to Rantoul, IL today -- home of the Chanute Air Museum, on the site
of the former Chanute Air Force Base. The wind was predicted to be
howling -- winds aloft were calling for 54 knots at 6000 feet! -- but the
sun was shining, and we were enjoying our first Saturday off since last
Oshkosh....

Night landings vs. day landings by
Gerald Sylvester
I got a strange thing going on. I got my license a couple of months
ago. My day landings are smooth but not the smoothest. I do them.
i don't myself, a passenger or the plane but sometimes not greasers.
my night landings, every one of them, I can grease them in. Shouldn't
it be the opposite? I...

A new record! by
Viperdoc[_5_]
I count around six posts in a row about aviation, with almost all of the
responses actually related to the topic.
Common factor- no Anthony Atkielski. When asked a logical question, Bertie
gives reasonable and factual answers based upon knowledge and experience.
This was never the case with MX,...

Lightspeed Zulu? by

Any tried this headset yet in their airplane? A friend tried one at the AOPA

Legal question - Pilot liability and possible involvement with a crime by
John
I write this question solely from an aviation point of view, and don't
wish to start any thread or discussion regarding the principal or
newsmaker involved.
What would happen if Michael Jackson wanted to flee the country in his
corporate jet? - specifically, would his corporate aviation...

Accidents happen... by
Manuel
Unfortunately accidents do happen, but it was the first time I had
somewhat to do with it. The airplane I usually fly with, a Piper Arrow
from the local flight school and FBO, crashed on landing during a
cross-country flight to Florence (Italy). The plane suddenly banked to
the left 10 feet over...

C-172 Fuel by
[email protected]
I fly a 172 F.
The fuel selector says to select single tank operation at or above 5000
feet.
If you leave the selector in the "both" position, under 5000 for any
prolonged period of time (couple of hours) the right tank appears to go
down more quickly than the left. This is confirmed at...

Secondary Stall by

This stall is called a secondary stall since it may occur after a
recovery from a preceding stall. It is caused by attempting to hasten
the completion of a stall recovery before the airplane has regained
sufficient flying speed. When this...
