Turbo Supercharges of Aircraft Systems by [email protected]
The most efficient method of increasing horsepower in a reciprocating engine is by use of a turbo supercharger, or turbo charger, as it is usually called. ( from the http://ma3naido.blogspot.com/2007/10/aircraft-systems-turbo-superchargers.html blogs) A drawback of gear-driven superchargers is that...

Unusual Honeywell KLN94 aviation GPS failure - what could causethis? by Dave S
I have seen that indication when the antenna did not have a clear view of the sky. The installed aircraft was an EADS/Socata TB-9 with gull wing doors. Coming out of the pad, the pilot's door when up (as it was in the summer) would obscure much of the sky and not allow the GPS to get a...

Flying over water and filing IFR by Brien K. Meehan
Okay, I'm here, and my destination is on the other side of one of the Great Lakes. Flying direct will take me out of gliding distance from shore, so I don't want to do that. .... but there's no obvious airway route around the lake. In fact, there's a big honkin' Class B area, so even if I try to...

CNX-80 question by ROBIN FLY
I have seen some CNX-80 screen pictures with its built-in CDI showing the course as a triangle, sometimes it points up and other times it points down. What does it mean when it points up vs. down? Glideslope or VNAV? Regards, Robin Hou

ILS approach into KHKS by [email protected]
Today's approach into KHKS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJ-Hzig3RdM On launch celings were 600 and tops were 1700 solid OVC. By the time I got to HKS, ceilings were about 700 and broken. Just enough cloud coverage to justify an instrument rating as no VFR traffic was to be found but as easy...

Terminal Forecasts (FT) by [email protected]
I'm a bit confused about the aviation Terminal Forecasts (FT) report. Has this report be replaced by the TAF report? On the www.noaa.gov web site I see the TAF report avialability but I don't see the FT report anywhere. Thanks...

Mo Why publish a plate for an OTS approach? by [email protected]
What part of your butt did you pull that BS out of? Congress has nothing to do with the federal register. Bob Gardner wrote: An instrument approach is, in effect, an act of Congress. Although they do it through obscure references to Part 97, each approach must be published in...

pc simulator with Garmin GPS? by paul kgyy
Anybody know of a PC flight simulator that has full flight controls combined with a GNS-430 or 530? I have Garmin's 430 simulator without flight controls, and On Top with controls and a 1990 GPS unit that doesn't have approach fixes in the database. It'd be nice to have both in one package.

GPS for airport navigation by John Bell
I think that GPS can be helpful for airport ground navigation and avoiding runway incursions. For some reason, I never see this mentioned in any of the material on runway incursion. It's not perfect, but if you have one in the cockpit it might help you maintain situational awareness on the...

off airway MEA's by akiley
I'm wondering if there is a way to determine the minimum altitude required for uninterrupted communication with ATC off airways? Do you look at the closest airway and sort of interpolate the MEA? Do the center and approach controllers have maps with these altitudes? I'm assuming an MVA doesn't...

TIM'S ABCS by epsalant
Once upon a time I used the pneumonic TIM'S ABCS to set up for an approach. I have forgotten what everything stands for (I believe it begins Tune, Identify, Markers...). Does anyone remember the rest? And do you know what book it's from? Thanks! Evan
