Learning piston engine basics by
[email protected]
Is there a good place on the web that describes the basics and
terminology of piston engines? I understand the basic concepts, but
some of the terms I read, like journals and bosses, etc., are a bit
beyond me and I'd like to get a little bit better knowledge of the
concepts. I'm definitely not...

182 panel by
Jim
Does anybody know what would be the oldest Cessna 182 that one could
re-configure into a standard T "8-pack"? I've seen a '69 done this way, but
older models look like they have a curved panel with less room.
Thanks!

Annual Coronary by
Jay Honeck
The junior A&P in the shop that is doing my annual (whom I've known for
years) was poking around in the under-wing inspection cavities on the
starboard fuselage/wing root joint, when he let out a low whistle.
Since I was futzing around with re-attaching my god-awful wheel pants (I
don't CARE if...

C172N Flap indicator problem by
onesto
My 172N has suddenly developed a problem where Flap actuation switch
does not work during 1st 10 degree position and requires lever to be
around 12 degree before flaps work. Flap indicator will not return to
zero and remains at above 10 degrees. Flaps travel to 40 degrees OK and
work well as long...

Does Lycoming make any sense? by
Robert M. Gary
I just spoke with Lycoming regarding my very high fuel flow. Recently
I've had a problem where I'm getting almost double my normal fuel flow
at idle even with the mixture at the edge of cut-off. I suspected a
servo but called Lycoming. They said I may have a nozzel with a
blockage and the other...

Preheat by
PaulaJay1
Winter is comming to Ohio ( thou the 60 deg day today disagrees) and the
subject of engine preheat arrises. I have a Tannis for the cylinders and a pad
to heat the oil. I can call the FBO and have them plug it in an hour before I
arrive and the engine is, at least, not cold to the touch. Still...

BLUE GOOSE by
Cribsheet
Ran across two great aviation books on http://www.amazon.com that may be of
interest. One is entitled THE LAST FLIGHT OF THE BLUE GOOSE. It`s about B-24
bomber that simply disappeared from Fort Myers Army Air Base, Florida in 1942.
In 1977, after the death of a former Luftwaffe pilot a bizarre...

Paint for interior details by
Frode Berg
Hi!
We have just got a factory overhauled engine, as well as new leather on our
interior of our Arrow 68, and I have a question regarding interior paint.
What should we use to paint the plastic details inside the plane?
Anything we should not use? It's chipped a bit in places, do we need...

Hello all,
Our aircraft (Ms 893E) is wired with one VHF comm (old Narco 11A - but

vor head needed by
blanche cohen
Well, the old (very old!) Narco VOR head died. Actually, I noticed it
was dead over a year ago, but it was on the 2nd nav/com so I really
didn't care. But I'm thinking of starting IFR training (again, for
the 3rd time) and the 2nd VOR would be nice.
Don't need the ILS portion, I have a perfectly...

Overhaul? Lead flakes in oil - interpretation please by
Les Sullivan
I have a 1972 Cessna 172 with a Lycoming 0-320-E2D engine and it runs
beautifully. It is on UK private category.
The engine is "original" and total time is about 2800 hours.
The engine had a thorough top overhaul quite a few years ago, maybe
around 1500 hours (new pistons etc) and has no problems...

I just ran an FAA database check on a Cherokee Six that I'm interested

decision with respect to...
