Flight Training at 15? by
Jay Honeck
My son is 15. He'll be turning 16 in August, and starting his Junior year
of high school.
He's been flying since he can remember, and has many hours in the right
seat. (He's got over 1500 hours as a passenger with Mary and me.) His first
dozen or so hours behind the yoke were "IFR" -- because he...

Paragliding crash by
Aviv Hod
I just ran across a fascinating video of a paragliding pilot that gets
into trouble, makes the right decision and gets on the ground safely
with his reserve. Things sometimes go very wrong in the air, so for all
their contraversy, I for one would love to have a similar option and
have BRS style...

just out of interest: pressure pattern navigation by
xerj
.... when using pressure pattern nav techniques, what's a standard way for
working out groundspeed for flight planning purposes? Do you take the
forecast curved route and divide it up into segments and average it out?
TIA

In the ear ANR by
Chris W
I have seen at least one in the ear "head set". I was wondering if any
one has tried them with a cheap passive hearing protector like the ones
used for shooting and things like that. The reason I ask is I know some
shooters prefer, plugs and some prefer headsets, and some like to use
both. Well...

For those that want to contribute ahead of time to the annual r.a.*OSH party by
Jack Allison
Anyone who wants to chip in ahead of time so that folks like Jim B. and
MontBlack can have some working capital for buying food for the party,
e-mail me, Jim B. or Jay H. for Jim's Paypal info. Some people (who
shall remain nameless but tend to build awesome coolers for said event)
go way above...

TRAFFIC ALERT! TRAFFIC ALERT! by
Casey Wilson
....Skyhawk XXX. Traffic is 12 o'clock, two miles, altitude 7600, closing.
Recommend turn left 30 degrees immediately."
My buddy (we'll call him CJ) rolled into a hard left bank and added some
down-push to the yoke when a glance at the altimeter told him he was at
7,500.
"XXX, traffic now one...

Trip Report: Toronto by
Andrew Sarangan
I recently did a trip to Canada, and wanted to summarize it for the
benefit of others.
Flight was from Dayton, OH to Toronto Buttonville Airport (CYKZ).
Realizing that I will inevitably be radar vectored around Toronto, I
filed for GPS direct with only one intermediate waypoint (CYPT) to keep
me...

Cherokee 140 - LASAR vs. Powerflow vs. Laminar Speed Kit by
EridanMan
Hey Guys,
So my annual on 'Julie' (A Cherokee 140) is coming in substantially
lower than expected, and it looks like I'm going to have about 4k in
funds freed up that I had already budgeted to spend.
Of course, the sensible side of me says I should save the money for
Fuel... but what fun is...

IFR training software by

I am looking for recommendations for software for one of the interactive,
computer IFR training courses. A friend just bought the one from King, and I
have looked on line at the one from Sporty's. Are there any others that I
should consider? I would appreciate hearing about the pros and cons of...
