Helicopter School / whats in a name by
Chachie
Hi there I am about to embark on a new career as a helicopter pilot. I
have taken a couple of lessons and have found that I love it, and
want to do it for the rest of my life. I am 24 and newly married to a
wonderful woman who is ready to take on this adventure with me. I have
a few questions that...

Merry Christmas to all by
[email protected]
Here's a joke for you that I got from another thread,
The Public Works Minister of a former French colony in Central Africa
is in
France in an official visit.
He is invited for a dinner at the private house of his French
counterpart.
When he reaches the place, he can't refrain to say:

X-Wings and Canard Rotor Wings. by
Charles Gray
Two questions.
1. What ever became of the X-wing stopped rotor concept? It seemed
to be a big thing in the 1980's but just went away. Is anyone still
working on it?
2. IN a similar Vein, did the Canard Rotor Wing X-50 Dragonfly ever
recover from its accident?
Thanks!

Bell Textron D-314 tiltrotor designs. by
Charles Gray
During the 1970's, Bell came up with a variety of Tiltrotor concepts,
including several gunship models. Does anyone know where a good place
to start looking for conceptual art or planned specifications would
be?
Also, isn't a tilt-rotor considerably less effecient than a
helicopter in vertical...

heli flying - which would be more fun/useful Schweizer 300C or a Bell 47G by
Charles Morrice
You are comparing apples and oranges. A Schweizer is still in production
and parts/support available; a G is long out of production and parts are
harder and harder to find.
If you want to fly lots rather than drive an antique a Schweizer is for you.
In my humble opinion.

Engine Out Operation by
Charles Talleyrand
I'm curious. Can a Blackhawk, Chinook, or other large military
helicopter hover with one engine out? What is the procedure for one-
engine-out operations for large helicopters? I assume no one auto
rotates a 30,000 lbs helicopter???
The obvious internet searches didn't help.

I remain extremely skeptical that the thing flys until I see a picture

Re-Engine Programs by
Charlie Echo
Are the CH-53's and CH-47's getting their engines upgraded or replaced? I
have heard rumor that both airframes are getting re-engined with the
Rolls-Royce AE-1107's.
Thanks,
