Alternator load distribution in a Baron by
Viperdoc
My 1980 B-55 has uneven load distribution on the two alternators, with the
right side consistently reading around 15% lower than the left.
Is this an indication of a problem with the alternator like a bad diode, or
is this normal operating behavior?

Any advice on the best wing leading edge cleaner /bug remover? I've tried
Simple green, car wash detergent in a spray bottle, and PPC Wing Clean. Any

Cold Starts by
Viperdoc
Is it worth lugging long extension cords to plug in the Tanis heaters for my
Baron if it's going to sit outside at 12 degrees for two to three hours
after a flight?
I have cowl plugs which may help a little, but is it really a problem? The
oil will be well circulated, and the battery is in good...

Stuck valve versus plugged injector by
Viperdoc
My AEIO 540 equipped plane had a cylinder stop working following a flight
yesterday. It ran fine during the flight, and quit on the taxi back to the
hangar. (Number 3)
It started to run rough, and a mag check showed that the cylinder was cold
on both (six probe EGT and CHT).
The plugs both look...

Jen:
It was nice to speak with you, although briefly, yesterday. You seemed a lot
more at peace with yourself and your decision to take classes. I applaud
your efforts to seek personal challenges.
I hope that you have prepared a lavish party and baby shower for your
sister. This is the least that...

Winter flying ops by
Viperdoc
It is now a balmy 3 degrees here in Wisconsin, and I was thinking about
trying to find the winter fronts and putting on my Baron.
The question that comes up every year is whether to open the cowl flaps for
start, taxi, and take off, knowing the ambient temperature is so low.
It's hard enough to...

The engine is finally back! by
Viperdoc
After sending my Lycoming AEIO-540 to the factory for a mandatory repair it
has finally returned. At Oshkosh this year the people at the Lycoming booth
swore it would take only two weeks, but when the actual paperwork arrived
everything said one month in the shop. It ended up taking a little over...

Who pays redux by
Viperdoc[_4_]
After a few weeks, I called my mechanic, since I had not received a bill.
(See previous threads for background):
Immediately after the last annual, the plane threw an alternator belt. We
went through three belts, and the last one has been in for six hours and
worked fine. During this time we...

Who pays follow-up by
Viperdoc[_4_]
Threw the belt again after twenty minutes in IMC on the way to the avionics
shop. Destination was VMC, so elected to continue rather than turn around or
land, and the other alternator was handling the load easily.
Avionics guy fixed the radar (took three guys around 30 minutes). Belt...

Another who pays question by
Viperdoc[_4_]
Had a major radio install on my Baron- a Garmin 530W and 430W. As part of
the install the avionics shop moved the radar display.
On the trip home (the same trip where in IMC the alternator quit) I turned
the radar on, since there were some storms over my home airport as indicated
by the...

Nothing to fly by
Viperdoc[_4_]
My "go someplace" plane is gone for a few weeks having some avionics
upgrades (should be nice when done).
However, the fun plane is sitting in the hangar without a prop- MT mandates
an overhaul/inspection every six years, regardless of hours. The local prop
shop picked it up and threw it on the...

Got one plane back, sort of by
Viperdoc[_4_]
Went to pick up my Baron today, and was given a ride in my buddy's turbine
Bonanza (a great plane made even better). Cruised at 17,000!
OK, so I picked up my plane with the new Garmin 530W/430W installation,
which worked great. They communicate with each other, and the info displays
are much...

Who pays? by
Viperdoc[_4_]
First flight after annual, and the alternator light comes on over Lake
Michigan in IMC- left alternator belt thrown, which was replaced at the
annual. Never had any problems with electrics prior to this.
Replace belt, light comes on with application of power or electrical load.
Returned to...

Hi all
Can anyone point me to some real-life reliability data for the Sigma Tek

Inexpensive Garmin 430/530 question by
vlado
Barnstormers has a few listings for inexpensive Garmin 430/530 units
for sale. However, all these listings are for overseas sources. Has
anyone had any experience with these sources?
Thx.
