Drones To Be Certificated For GA? by
hierophant[_2_]
Appears so :(
http://www.gatheringspot.net/news-article/general-discussion/lobbying-report-drones-fly-through-congress-and-american-skys
The article originally had a picture of a non-drone SR-71 Blackbird
which was removed. ???
My concern is that this certification will lead to...

Feathering an engine by
Flanagan
I am an historian who is writing a nonfiction book involving WWII B-24 airmen. I have done considerable research on B-24s, but I am not a pilot. In my book, I tell of an incident in which an engine died and was feathered. I have been repeatedly told, and have repeatedly read, that feathering is...

Whats it take to get a ride on a jump seat by
Tman[_2_]
Of a commercial airline flight. Is it just out of the question?
I have a comm'l ticket and am an avid aviator so we I might have
something to bond with the crew on the ground, and can understand the
need to stay out of their hair in the air.
That said, I'm not a beautiful lady, so I don't have...

Historical NOTAMs by
Mxsmanic
Today I was a bit curious about what NOTAMs were issued when Mount Saint
Helens exploded in Washington back in 1980. Is there a place on the Web where
very old NOTAMs can be looked up (for free)?

More flaps? by

I watched the terrible carsh

I was wondering, after he got on the backside of the power curve and
committed to flight, could he have recovered it by putting out more
flaps?
Cheers

Rental Checkride? by
Dallas
I was just checking the rental terms at an FBO in the city I plan to visit
over Christmas.
I've got most of my hours in the type I wanted to rent and the FBO said
they want 3 takes offs and landings, then a power on and power off stall.
They charge the time to do this as dual.
I can see 20...

Fuel selector question by
es330td
Sorry if this is dumb (I am only at 8.3 hours toward my PPL)...
In the email I got from AOPA ePilot training tips today there is a
discussion of fuel starvation that makes regular mention of the fuel
selector switch. All my flying is done in a CE172 and the first and
last time I worry about the...

Congress Examines Pilot Medical Record Fraud by

CONGRESS EXAMINES PILOT MEDICAL RECORD FRAUD
(http://www.avweb.com/eletter/archives/avflash/910-full.html#195656)
Does the FAA need to do more to ensure that pilots are not lying
about dangerous medical problems so they can keep their
certification? That's the question that was...

How do you get passengers over the fear of flying? by
Gerald Sylvester
I recently got my PPL and find that most people are scared sh*tless to
go up. One friend came along and was just blown away and had a ton
of fun. Just about everyone else is "oh my god, I am so scared
of airplanes." This weekend I was going to go with my CFI to celebrate
my passing my checkride...

Mx is now forging other peoples monikers - beware! by
CRaSH
Mx has forged my moniker on several postings in the sim group, so if you see
someone post something uncharacteristic for that particular individual,
check it out before jumping on them. Mx has a really tough time replicating
a normal human being, so it usually sticks out...

Oil on the windshield. What would you do? by
Tony Cox
Here's a question that anyone with a single
engine, constant speed prop might have to
deal with sometime.
You're cruising along happily when suddenly
oil drops start appearing on the windshield. There
is no "bang" or anything else to indicate catastrophic
failure. The nearest airport is out of...

Air taxi vs. Charter or Part 135 by
Dan
All,
What's the difference between "Air Taxi" and Charter or Part 135
operations? While tracking some flights via FlightAware, I notice that
some planes fly under their tail numbers most of the time, but at times
there is a "T" prefixed to the tail number in the system. I read that
this...

Winter Flying by
[email protected]
Since we are well into winter and snow and ice, how are you coping with
it? What are you doing to pick out XC checkpoints now that the ground
is covered with snow and everything looks different? How are you going
to handle taxiing on slick or ice covered taxiways and runways? Have
you ever...

Can I fly the NY VFR corridor w/o a XPNDR? by
Mike
Simple question. Can I fly the NY VFR corridor in a
transponderless aircraft that meets the exception
requirements of 91.215 (no electrical system)? It looks
like the answer is yes, provided I stay low enough (below
500' as I turn the Lady). Any new TFR or other restrictions
on this? Any good...

"Rescue" flight, PPL by
Joe Johnson
Last week, as I returned to my rental FBO after an evening local flight, the
clerk on duty said an instructor and his student were stuck at an airport
about 40 minutes away. I spoke to the instructor on the phone and I agreed
to fly up and bring them back. He mentioned that, of course, I...

flight training - 100nm night flight requirement by

Hi all,
I've been a long time lurker in these NGs, but until now I havent had any
great items to ask or discuss. But I know the how much knowledge is in
these groups, so here goes...
A friend of mine is going for his Private. one of the requirements (as I
fondly recall from my own training) is a...

500 hours! by
Tony Cox
Well, without noticing it, I managed to crank over the 500
hour mark yesterday. Not particularly impressive compared
to many in this group for sure, but I have paid for each and
every one of those hours myself. According to the ASF, I'm
now in the sweet spot (between 500 and 1000 hours) where
my...
