"gaits" for 172RG by
[email protected]
Hi guys. I just got checked out in my club's Cutlass for the purpose of
getting started on my commercial rating. In that vein, I haven't done
any instrument work in the AC yet -- working on the commercial rating
is an interesting opportunity toget out of the mental world of
instrument flying and...

"Homeland Security" in Iowa by
Jay Honeck
So we took my 26 year old, blonde, blue-eyed, 6' 4" nephew back to the Cedar
Rapids airport last night, to catch his red-eye flight back to Seattle. He
was as sick as a dog (flu?) and weak as a kitten, but go he must, so off he
went...
The "Eastern Iowa Airport" is a pretty sleepy place on a...

"Hurricane Hunters" by
Dave
I'm full of intrigue and admiration for these AF reservists that fly
C-130`s (?) into hurricanes.
I'll google up some more info, but does anyone have links, stories,
and ETC. for posting?
Thanks,
Dave

"I Want To FLY!"-(Youth) My store to raise funds for flying lessons
http://www.cafeshops.com/IWantToFly
Hi!
My name is Trace. I am 13 years old and LOVE to fly planes and gliders.
I have a deal with my parents to split the cost of my flying lessons. My dad
helped me start my "I want To FLY!"...

"Interesting" wind yesterday by
Jay Honeck
As many may know, we set records here in Iowa yesterday, hitting 73 degrees
in Iowa City. It felt great!
The winds in the afternoon started to kick up pretty good, as a cold front
approached from the northwest. On our way back from brunch in Lone Rock, WI
(where we ran into this group's own Jim...

"K" in VOR identifier by
Jack Cunniff
I had a first today; flying VFR across New England on this clear winter
day, my route took me over Bradley, KBDL. I always tune VORs during my
flights, so tuned Bradley's VOR.
Identifying, though, was interesting. The morse identifier was FOUR
characters, the last three of which were B D L. I had...

"Last Samurai" and Bradley's book "Flyboys" by
Maule Driver
I was recently dragged out to see the "Last Samurai". Can't
really recommend it except as escapist, fantasy violence...and Tom for the stargazers. But I can recommend a related book, James Bradley's "Flyboys, a true story of courage".
Related? The book starts with a sweeping historical look...

"Merry Christmas" and "Thank You" to the NG by

I have been around here for a few years, and today I would like to extend my
special thanks to the participants of these newsgroups. In spite of the
sometimes bizarre politics and occasional outright hostility, there was
still plenty here to help inspire me....
.... so this year I started flight...

"one-week" Instrument Training? by
Rod S
In the next few months, I may have a couple of weeks I could dedicate
to earning my instrument rating. I am a PP-SEL with about 100 hours,
and my BFR is due in November. Since I'm committed to keeping my
ticket, and the instrument rating would meet the BFR requirement, I'm
considering one of the...

"position & hold" going away by
Paul kgyy
I saw an announcement on Aeronews this morning that the FAA is
proposing that the "taxi into position and hold" process used at
virtually all towered airports be discontinued.
This is really gonna work great at places like Newark, LaGuardia, and
OHare.

"Proceed on Course" = "Right turn approved"? by
Bob Chilcoat
I took of from Reading, PA this morning from RW 31 with an on-course heading
of 105. As I was cleared for takeoff, I was told "Cleared for takeoff,
proceed on course". In the past, they've also added "Right turn approved".
This time they didn't. I was concerned that I hadn't been cleared for...

"Rescue" flight, PPL by
Joe Johnson
Last week, as I returned to my rental FBO after an evening local flight, the
clerk on duty said an instructor and his student were stuck at an airport
about 40 minutes away. I spoke to the instructor on the phone and I agreed
to fly up and bring them back. He mentioned that, of course, I...

"Taliban Doors" by
EDR
Has anyone heard the stories from airline pilots of 767 aircraft about
the placement of the unlock switch for the mandated "Taliban Doors"?
On at least one aircarrier, they are next to the fuel cutoff switches.
Care to guess how many times the wrong switch has been flipped after
they were first...

"Tanks on both" checklist item by
Koopas Ly
Good day all,
With regards to fuel tanks in a C172, why does the takeoff and landing
checklists both call for the fuel selector handle to be in the "both
tanks" position?
The only time that fuel is set to one particular tank is on the
ground. I've never used fuel from only one tank in flight. ...
