Glider Rating by
...
Hi gang,
I may have some rather stupid questions but I ask them anyway ;*) (it's
rec.aviation.student anyway, but I am also crossposting to
rec.aviation.soaring).
I am a private pilot trying to get a glider rating which takes me some
time due to irregular schedules (my fault). So I am usually...

Global Warming and what you can do against it by
......
Dear All,
As you know global warming is endangering the future of life on the
planet. It will also affect us;
rising sea levels, dwindling water supplies, mass deaths due to heat
waves, stoppage of the gulfstream, which
brings milder climate to north of Europe, super hurricanes, less food
due to...

Thermals in hell by
01-- Zero One
All of the recent posts about hell got me to thinking about the possible
strength of thermals in hell.
If hell is infinitely hot, even with the eventual melting and
disintegration of the glider, would we not be able to climb fast enough
to escape hell (another example of a 'low save').

Rejuvenating altimeter and airspeed faceplates by
01-- Zero One
I have a friend who wants to rejuvenate the faceplates on his/her
altimeter and airspeed. They have become faded and 'unsightly' although
working just fine.
Any suggestions as to approaches, "no-no's", etc.?
Thanks,
Larry

2007 US Contest Rules by
01-- Zero One
Have they been published yet? All I can find are the 2006 ones. I know
there are significant changes in the scoring formulae and have seen the
proposed documents.
Where and when are the actual rules going to be finalized? It is almost
time for the first contest.

There I was. just exiting the start cylinder at Perry, SC contest 3

Getting into position had been a struggle since I was the last one in

USA handicap listings by
01-- Zero One
Where are the official 2005 Sports Class handicaps?
The 2005 official Sports Class rules (on the SSA site) says in Paragraph
11.5.1.1 "Each sailplane is assigned a Handicap Factor from the SSA
Handicap Table (Appendix A to these Rules)." However, Appendix A is the
"Guide To Competition Rules"...

Ease of attaching and detaching by
01-- Zero One
Kirk has properly pointed up the issue in trying to align 2 pin wings.
I cannot tell you how many even experienced owners still try to install
the pin nearest the helper first. Based on the geometry of the design,
the helper has very little ability to control the alignment on that pin
but can...

I think I may have just invented an effective way to activate any of
these new ELT/PLB devices.
I am calling it the "RSPT sensor". It stands for Rectal Sphinctoid
Pressure/Temperature sensor.
