1. Does anyone know if the length of the Coax cable to the KA-42B antenna
matters, if so how long should it be?
2. How many ohms is the coax cable?
3. The blue cables connecting the antenna.....does it matter if they are
1 inch short from the original installation?
Regards
Ken

Suggestions sought for prop gov repair by
ks_av8r
Our Hartzell prop governor on an IO-360 Lyc has developed a nasty little oil
leak around the control shaft. The company in Wichita that successfully
repaired it many years ago is no longer performing this type of work.
Currently we are considering sending it directly to Hartzell, but if...

Insurance ? by
Kyle Boatright
I received my insurance update information today for my RV-6.
My policy is a "named pilot" only policy, which means Patty Wagstaff or Sean
Tucker wouldn't be insured on it unless they were approved by the insurance
company and added to the named pilot list. Fair enough - I'm the ONLY pilot
on my...

Airplanes in a 60' x 60' Hangar? by
Kyle Boatright
Anyone have experience with a 60x60 hangar? Our EAA chapter may have the
opportunity to lease one, and the economics will be driven by the number of
aircraft we can store. We'll have a mix of types - figure 25% RV's, 25%
kitfoxes, 25% C-172's, and 25% Cherokees.
Any thoughts on the number of...

Windshield Haze by
Kyle Boatright
I've noticed that the windscreen and canopy on my RV-6 has developed a haze
on its exterior.
The history of the canopy is that the canopy was manufactured about 7 years
ago, with the airplane first flying about 5 years ago. The airplane has
always been hangared (other than the occasional overnight...

Airport Power by
Kyle Boatright
I need a trickle of electrical power about a dozen times a year in my
hangar. I need it for my 125 watt preheater if I'm taking an early-morning
flight in the winter, and will use it for a .25A trickle charger if I've let
the aircraft sit for more than a week or two.
The problem is that my...

Anywhere Map WX vs Garmin 396 by
Kyle Boatright
From my buddies at the airport to this newsgroup, there is a lot of interest
in the Garming 396. No doubt it is a fine system with great features.
Why don't I hear anyone talking about the AnywhereMap WX, which seems to
have a roughly equivalent feature set for $800-$1,000 less up front...

Yet Another Annual Story by
Kyle Boatright
Actually, a "condition inspection".
Kelly is in Los Angles this weekend, so I have all weekend to play. Or, to
do the condition inspection on the RV-6, open the swimming pool, and mow the
lawn for the first time this year...
Tonight started well. Since the airport is sorta between where I work...

CHT Thermocouples by
Kyle Boatright
I know of two kinds of CHT thermocouples - the ring type which attach at the
spark plug and the probe type which thread into a fitting on the cylinder.
Conventional wisdom is that the ring type will show significantly higher
temperatures than the probe type. I've seen differences reported as up...

Foolish Buyer Tricks by
Kyle Boatright
The foolish buyer trick I've seen more often than others is the "It comes
with a fresh annual, I don't need a pre-purchase inspection." approach to
airplane buying.
Aargh.
We had an estate auction in this area recently where 4 vintage aircraft were
sold. Unfortunately (for the buyers), the...

Composite Workshop/Fly-Market - Marietta, GA by
Kyle Boatright
On Saturday, September 27, EAA 268 is putting on a fly-market and composite
workshop "under the control tower" at McCollum field in Marietta,GA.
The composite workshop will be fairly basic, and should give someone the
kick in the pants necessary to make his/her own fairings or to repair...

battery charger to get through Piper power port? by
Kyler Laird
I bought a cheap SLA trickle charger at a ham fest awhile ago thinking
I might use it with a cable I made for my Aztec. On a warm (but not
warm enough) day last week I tried start the plane without heating the
engines. I failed. I thought it would be a good time to try the
charger.
I knew my...

My Aztec insurance went up just a bit. by
Kyler Laird
Andy Facer just called and gave me the new quote from AIG.
I'm back where I was a couple years ago.
2001-2002 $2,725
2002-2003 $2,717
2003-2004 $2,629
2004-2005 $2,723
I don't consider this to be a significant change.

external oxygen port? by
Kyler Laird
On our way home not long ago we landed in Denver with our oxygen
getting low. I asked for a fill and they gave it their best shot
but our configuration didn't leave them sufficient space for all
of the adapters they needed to use. The ride home was...well, I
was glad that I had the oximeter. (As...
