HID Lighting by
Mike Rapoport
Has anyone installed Xevision HID lighting on their airplane under a 337
approval? How do you like it? Any issues getting approval? I landed my
Helio in the dark yesterday which worked out OK but I would prefer a
reliable landing light!

Hangar & PortAPort Ground Rent by
RST Engineering
The local airport authority (county) wants a pretty hefty chunk of change
increase in the ground rental for our personally owned PortAPort hangars as
well as a goodly increase in the county owned permanent T-hangars at GOO.
If you are in a hangar (especially a personally owned portaport type...

New Pilot
Hello all,
Wanted to hear your advice about buying a brand-new plane even before
getting the PPL ticket.
Here is my situation: I am a businessman sitting on quite a bit of cash
being generated by my business, and I am also a student pilot, will probably
get my ticket by the next Summer. I am...

WOT in cruise? by
Roger Long
I was always taught that WOT was a "renter's setting" and that you should
back off to 2300-2400 if you want to get good life out of your engine. I
keep running across the Advanced Pilot Seminar guys asking, "Why EVER be
partial throttle in cruise?
Of course, they are probably also talking about...

Beech F-33/B-55 panel upgrade or STC by
Gordon Rich-Phillips
In 1984 Beech did a major upgrade to the panel on A-36 Bonanzas and B-58
Barons, getting rid of the high-mounted throttle quadrant and control column
boom and installing a conventional throttle quadrant and individual control
columns.
Beech didn't make this change to the F-33 Bonanza or the B-55...

Navy sues man for plane he recovered in swamp by
marc
Strange story. Why would the Navy care about a plane that crashed and was
destroyed 60 years ago? If they really want it they should *reward* the guy
who dragged it out of a swamp for them and started restoring it, not sue
him! Unless there is more to the story not mentioned here (e.g. they...

Mandatory SB565 Lycoming fuel pump by
Paul kgyy
I received a notice in the mail. It says,
"If your Lycoming engine has a diaphragm-type fuel pump with Lycoming
P/N LW-15473 installed, and has a date code of 3201, the pump must be
replaced PRIOR TO NEXT FLIGHT."
The defective pumps were shipped from Lycoming between 10/1/01 and
2/2/04.
It...

Amphibian/floatplane insurance? by
C Kingsbury
Howdy,
Curious as to what people are paying to insure waterbirds- I'm a low-time
PPL-ASEL/S-IR and would like to someday get to use that "Sea" rating a
little more often. As it is now I do have the opportunity to build some solo
time in a 172 floatplane up in Maine but that's a 4-hour drive from...

I have a question about some of the legalities of what I am in the process of doing. If anyone can point me in the right direction I welcome and appreciate all opinions and advice.
I am in the process of purchasing a Cessna 210. I have 3 signed 1 year lease agreements with pilots in my area. I...

Cubcrafters vs. Legend Cub by
Jkgoblue
I recently got my tail wheel endorsement (in a Citabria) and really
enjoyed the whole experience. What a blast! While I like the Citabria,
the classic cub looks so neat and I'd love to check one out. I'm just
a renter now but I'm toying with owning a tailwheel. I'm quite tall
and I just fit into...

??Build rolling tool chest? by
Michael Horowitz
You know the rolling mechanics tool chests that provide some work room
on top? you see these in any A&P shop.
I don't need one, so I don't wanna spend much $$$, but if I could
build one for nothing, it would be fun to have.
Anyone built their own rolling tool chest? - Mike

Cost of ownership question by
Slip'er
I am going to put a lot of constraints on this question, bear with me. How
much does the size of the engine and airframe contribute to cost of
ownership? I am looking at buying a plane as are many of us. I am stuck in
the infinite loop of, well if I spend an extra $5K I can get this...but...

Any way to lower Piper Dakota seat height? by
Bob Reynolds
I'm 6'4" tall and just became a partner in a 1983 Piper Dakota, with
standard seats that allow a vertical adjustment. However, what I'm
finding is that I need about 1" to 2" more of headroom to be
comfortable even when the seat is fully down. Does anyone make an FAA
approved seat that will buy me...

Upholstery Repairs by
Mike Schumann
If I own a single engine airplane that needs some interior upholstery and
trim repairs, can I contract with an automotive upholstery repair shop to do
the work, or do I need to use an FAA Repair Station?
Thanks,

Sensenich Wood Prop Question by
[email protected]
Can someone tell me what the difference is between a "CK" and a "C"
designation on a Sensenich prop? I am looking at a used prop for my
Aeronca Champ which currently has a W72CK-44 cruise prop. The used
propeller that's for sale is a W72C-42. I have a C-65-8 taper shaft--
will the C work on my...

There is a filter on my Sigma Tek directional gyro at the port marked

It's a wafer type filter about 1 1/2" in diameter with another very small
screen about a 1/4" in diameter. The small screen is broken (has a hole in...
