Marker Beacon Tones by
Ron Natalie
"Jeff P" wrote in message ...
Where do marker beacon tones come from? Are they generated in the
receiver or are they transmitted from the ground station. I ask
because sometimes I see my lights blinking, but I don't...

Cessna 172 Empty CGs by
[email protected]
I'm working with a Cessna 172A, which is the '59 model.
It has a full panel with a pair of KX170s, and an ADF. It has been
modified with the 0-300D engine which supports a vacuum pump.
This is the 6 cylinder engine with Millenium cylinders. I don't think
they add much weight -- but it would be...

Impulse Coupling on Magneto by
Kai Glaesner
Hello community,
I have a question I think some of you may be able answer: in most(?)
reciprocating engine installations, the left magneto seems to have a impulse
coupling, enabling the magneto to produce a spark strong enough for ignition
even at low (starter cranking) RPM's.
The question: does...

Long term storage by
JSBOUGHER
Hey all, long time lurker with a question. I just got an offer for a 3
yr posting far-far away (half a world actually, just heard they got
their first private aircraft). Anyway, looks like I'll be parking my
beloved Velocity for quite some time - not willing to sell her and
their are only a few...

current small aircraft market???? by
Private
In the 'Would you buy this engine' thread,
Peter R. said "With the glut of aircraft on the market"
and
John Galban said "with the airplane market heavily favoring the buyer these
days,"
I have been watching the for sale adverts looking for a Decathlon, and seem
to note a LOT more aircraft than I...

Ethanol Powered Airplane Certified In Brazil by
Victor
For those of you who do not have experience with etanol as fuel here
it goes. Engine compression is a little bit biger than a gasoline
engine. It burns a little bit more fuel. The big problem is that
ethanol is corosive. It will eat even carburators specially treated
for ethanol. What I was told...

Horton STOL 172 "V" speeds by
R. Wubben
I've just bought a '62 Cessna 172 with the Horton STOL kit and madras
droop tips and have a question:
My dad took it up for the first time (it's in WI, I'm in NC) and was
curious about if these modifications change the "V" speeds in any
significant way...? Apparantly there is no change in the POH...

Step-up Planning by
O. Sami Saydjari
I now own a PA28R201T, Piper Turbo Arrow III. It is a great plane
(although, as some of you know, I have had more than my share of
"challenges"). At altitude it cruises at 170 knots. Cost to operate is
around $90/hour (figuring maintenance and such). My range requirement
is 660nm with 45...

Ercoupe Opinions by
Doofus P. Leadbottom
I've got somewhat of a liking for Ercoupes and its derivitives. They seem
to be inexpensive to purchase, and somewhat cheap to fly and maintain. For
a fairly new pilot, who just want to fly for the fun of it, are they a good
bet?

Old Cessna 172 --- Cracks in Flap Trailing Edges by
Larry Smith
How are these things being repaired, with a 1"-wide aluminum sheet doubler
sandwiched between the corrugated skins? That's what one of the IA's here
suggests, other than replacing the skins, which would cost an arm and a leg.
TIA.

PA28 Battery replacement by
[email protected]
Hey all. I'm pretty certain I've convinced myself that my "bad starter"
and/or bad ring gear are actually my battery going bad. With the skytec starter, it
makes sense that at high-load, the voltage could drop enough so the starter solenoid
cannot hold the gear engaged to the flywheel. It pops...

Landing lights, incandescent, halogen and Xenon HID by
The Visitor
I have finally got my wing tips painted and on my Seneca, they have the
hid lights in them. I had the Piper wingtip recognition lights before,
35 watters, not good enough to show a light in daylight.
My attention is now turning towards my actual landing lights. These are
located on the nosegear...
