Twice as fast for less gas by
Phil J
I don't know if this guy's ideas would work, but it's a shame he
hasn't had a chance to really try them out...

On the Ground by
[email protected]
After I land at an unfamiliar airport, I feel like a homeless person.
This summer I planned a long cross-country from Missouri to California
and back, and I wondered if I could fly into small airports and be
assured of finding food and lodging. What I learned may be of interest
to others. Here is...

OK......since it has a "Catch" here's the answer by
karl gruber
I gave Harmon Leonard a BFR about 20 years ago. He is long gone now but
fancied himself quite an opera star.
He owned a big freight company here in Seattle and was mostly retired. Bob
Gardner will vouch for the fact that Harmon flew for about 30 minutes every
day and his REPUBLIC TWIN SEABEE...

Attention Deficit Disorder... by

Has anyone out there been able to get their aviation medical with a
previous diagnosis for ADD or ADHD? What did you have to go through to
get it? Thanks for sharing your experience!

Looking for older runway light fixtures by
Ron Lee[_2_]
We have some older runway threshold lights (L861 SE type) with
individual red and green lenses that are smooth as opposed to the ones
today that have some shape to them. These lenses are inside the clear
globe. They are about 17 years old and I can't find replacements.
Anyone know of a source...

Privatizing Flight Service Stations - AOPA by
One's Too Many
AOPA has an article online right now regarding an FAA study to
possibly privatize the operation of the FSS system.
AOPA says, as usual, that they will fight the privatization of the FSS
system as vigorously as possible. I fear that some...

Aviation Weather Services, AC 00-45F by

I hate cross-posting, and I assume that participants in this newsgroup also
participate in .ifr and .student...
Just got a copy of the new AWS and it is awesome. The fact that it is
published by ASA is not a factor...it's something every serious pilot should
have. Twice as many pages as 45E,...

crummy stationary fronts by
Paul kgyy
I don't think any kind of weather is as irritating to me as these
summertime stationary fronts that just drape themselves through the
midwest, generating day after day of fog, rain, drizzle, low clouds,
tstorms. Very little wind, air so stagnant that it too is
irritating. I tried to fly from...

On the Cover of the...Flight Journal! by
Jay Honeck
Okay, so it's not the "Rolling Stone" -- and we can't really see his
face behind the gun sight -- but this group's own Vlado Lenoch is on
the cover of this month's "Flight Journal" magazine, flying a
beautiful Republic P-47 Thunderbolt.
Congrats, Vlado, both on flying the Jug, and the cover! What...

MLBPA Insurance, The Lidle Crash & A Closet Full of Suits by
PPL-A (Canada)
I believe this chain of lawsuits began when Mrs. Lidle found out that
her husband's group policy provided for by the Major League Baseball
Players Assosiaction (MLBPA) would not be paying out any money to her,
as the accidental death clause wording allegedly specifically excludes
coverage if the...

leaning a lycoming engine by
airpix
A few of you were asking about leaning a Lycoming engine awhile back.
Here's the official word from Lycoming:
In order to cope with high elevation airport takeoffs with normally
aspirated engines, whenever the density altitude is 5,000 feet or
higher, the pilot must compensate on the ground before...

My weird sink drain by
AES
This is totally OT for this group -- except the group contains a lot of
obviously clever people who are professionally interested in aerodynamic
and fluid flows and pressures, pipes, valves, and the like, and maybe
someone will be entertained by the following odd bathroom sink behavior.
Our newly...

Landing in Alaska? Fear moose collisions no more by
AJ
Happy news from Reuters:
Pilots flying into and out of a small airport north of Anchorage,
Alaska, no longer have to keep an eye out for stray moose on the
runway.
The municipal airport at Wasilla, a town about 40 miles north of
Anchorage, has installed an electric anti-moose mat around...

Online Garmin Video Training by the FAA by
Marco Leon
Got this in an email. Not bad. And it's free!
http://aea.faa.gov/aea200/safety/Garmin.htm
The FAA Safety folks (at least here in NY) offer some pretty good seminars
but this seems nice enough to post here. Veteran Garmin 430/530 may find it
basic though.

Proposed new user interface for winds and temperature aloft at ADDS by

provide them with your feedback (mail link is at top of...
