be going to Oshkosh this year. First time in twelve years for Gail; first
time in thirty-three years for Jim.
We have a room in the newly...

Partnership Question by
Harry Gordon
I hope this is the right newsgroup for this question ---
An A&P mechanic at the flight school I am attending is considering buying a
172M (75/76 model). He is looking for a partner that will pick up the tab
for all maintenance - that is buying repair parts - he will do the labor.
While I haven't...

O-320 H2AD Lifter Spalling Page by
Roger Long
Despite a very favorable service profile, careful preheating, and frequent
lifter inspection, the engine in our 172 N has fallen victim to the sudden
lifter face disintegration that the Lycoming O-320 H2AD is especially prone
to.
Conventional wisdom is that his problem is the result of poor...

Mike Z.
I have DCs for the front seats and 1- lightspeed QFR Solo for the back. Lightweight, quiet and non vice-like. I am considering a
second pair for the other side at about $125.

Ben Smith
Thought I'd make a quick post about our annual this year. Came in just over
$1k, for the normal inspection, plus:
New EGT probe (EGT was inop)
New Brackett air filter housing. (Due to AD?)
ELT Battery
Gaskets... #1, #2, & #3 valve covers, dipstick tube, both mags, and pushrod
tubes on #1.
New...

Battery charging C172 by
rowntree
Due to a prolonged period of non use the 24V battery went flat on my
C172N. Is there any way a charger can be connected through the
external power point rather than the hassle of removing cowls to
connect battery charger alligator clips. It could be handy to connect
a trickle charger ocassionaly...

First Time Buyer. Help! by
KayInPA
Hello,
I am seriously considering the purchase of an airplane and would like
to ask the group for potential dos and don'ts. I would so appreciate
any guidance, advice, or practical tips other pilots in this newsgroup
could offer. Also, to ask about any financial considerations that my

Has any got any experience with taking a cat in an airplane. Do they freak

Operating cost: C421 PA31 an BE58 by
Jarema
If my boss buy a plane I would be prospective pilot on it. He thinks
about cabin class twin or BE58. After fast research we together decided
to choose from:
- Cessna 421C
- Piper Navajo
- Beech 58 Baron.
Could you give me example operating cost?
Would it be difficult to buy insurance for low time...

Control surface repair legal? Part II by
[email protected]
A few weeks ago, I acquired the "collective usenet wisdom" on whether or not moveable control surfaces are repairable. The
answer I received was that "It depends on whether or not the service manual allows it." As an example, I looked through a Piper
Cherokee service manual which said that the...

JPI Data Encryption? by
CSnyder
Seems sometime last year JPI decided to eliminate the ability of it's
scanners to export data in the widely used CSV (comma separated fields)
format. When a unit is sent in for upgrade or repair they silently make
this change to the firmware.
The only thing you can use to plot your data is their...

Gascolator by
Jonathan Goodish
Has anyone used the Steve's Aircraft FAA-PMA gascolator STC on a
Cherokee? I am curious as to whether it is worth the trouble of
changing the stock gascolator to get rid of the whole bail wire fiasco.
Not sure how the drain valve would work, might have to use some fittings.

Of clocks and learning curves... by
Jay Honeck
So I picked up this nifty Davtron digital electric clock/timer at Sun N Fun.
It's exactly the same model I had in my Warrior (Model 800), and I found a
good price for it. (Roughly 4 times what it's really worth -- a bargain in
aviation!) Our wind-up clock had become sporadic in cold weather, and...

Learning from an owner annual by
Robert M. Gary
After 6 years of Mooney ownership I'm doing my first owner assisted
annual. Most of my previous annuals have been done by factory service
centers. I'm quite a good wrench around cars so this experience is
mostly about me learning the standards & practices of aircraft work.
I'm amazed by a couple...

Rolls-Royce O-200? by
[email protected]
pardon my ignorance...
Is a rolls-royce O-200 the same as a continental O-200?
I mean specifically same overhaul times, same parts, same maintence,
etc?
I'm interested in a homebuilt with one but don't want to get into some
orphan engine.
Thanks,
Ryan in Madison

PIREP - Garmin GTX-327 by
Jay Honeck
I obtained this unit on Ebay nearly a month ago, from an avionics shop in
Bakersfield, CA. The unit had been installed in a plane for precisely one
day before that owner had decided that he REALLY wanted the Mode S GTX-330,
with traffic information capability.
The shop couldn't sell it as new...

Hello,
In my continueing search for information on Twin Comanches I've come
across a question on de-ice. I notice some Twin Comaches have it and
others don't.
Is there an after market company that sells the boots, etc? Or were
they all installed at the factory?
Also, what is the difference...
