CAP volunteer? by
Robert M. Gary
Has anyone on this list working with CAP. I'm a CFI and would be
willing to donate some instruction if they were interested and if it
were helpful. Is CAP interested in civilian CFIs or just those with a
military background? What does it mean that some CAP orgs are "Cadet"
and some are "composite"?...

Bluetooth Wireless Headsets by
Jay Honeck
Lopresti recently introduced a product that I've long awaited --
bluetooth wireless ANR headphones.
This technology seems to be key to solving one of the great
aggravations in the cockpit -- wire snarl. I've done everything
possible to minimize wiring from our GPS units, and from XM...

Most fun flying with your clothes on! by
Michelle P
yesterday I finished my latest rating. Commercial Single Engine Sea! It
was a lot of fun. Now I have to get floats for the Maule!
I was actually having fun while training for the rating. That was a change.
Next year? CMES? That will round out the powered rating for me.

Class B VFR by
Matt Whiting
I'm hoping to make my long VFR cross-country for my commercial license
this afternoon and evening (to get both day and night into one flight).
I'm tentatively planning to fly into CAK which is class bravo
airspace. As I was planning the flight today, I realized that I haven't
flown VFR into...

Grass Strips, Landing Technique, etc. by
Orval Fairbairn
I have been following the "Grass Strip" thread and have a few comments:
I have a "high performance" Vintage Johnson Rocket (the hot rod of 1946)
and have based it on both grass and paved fields and have flown into and
out of grass fields ranging from "fantastic" to "I'd never go in...

When Time Slows Down by
Kyle Boatright
Do you ever experience the sensation that time is slowing down for you?
E.G. Your brain and motor functions are moving at normal speed, but
everything around you has slowed down?
I've had this sensation more than a few times. A couple of times when I was
in auto accidents (not my fault) and could...

Bonehead move today by
Viperdoc
Went to Lone Rock, Wisconsin today for the $100 hamburger , with excellent
VFR conditions, and winds light and variable.
After lunch we saw a 210 taxi to the approach end of runway 27 (clearly
visible from the the far end at the restaurant). Just as he started his
takeoff roll, another guy in a...

Reading back altimeter settings? by
Paul Tomblin
Does anybody have a good handle on when ATC wants you to read back
altimeter settings? On a single IFR flight on Tuesday, I encountered
several controllers who I'd check in with, and they'd give me an altimeter
setting, and that would be it, and 2 (both in Canada, BTW) whom when I
didn't read back...

Mt. Saint Helens by
C J Campbell
Scientists are now predicting a 70% chance of Mt. Saint Helens erupting and
throwing rocks as far as three miles away. Pilots flying in the area should
steer clear of the crater.

Landing patterns by
m pautz
There seems to be a discrepancy between glider landing patterns and
power landing patterns. There is a discussion on the soaring news group
about our 30-45 degree turns vs the power shallow banked turns. The
reason for our bank angle is because we fly close-in/tight patterns.
I can’t provide...

Back to the thread on pilots setting QNH for local acro work.
I was in the trusty Pawnee this weekend and checked the altimeter, I can

of setting QNH. I could not.
I attempted to find this information in my personal...
