Sure is easy to read this newsgroup! by
Terry
Over the last month I've "kill filed" or "blocked sender" in IE
express all the obvious non-pilot posters. Troll posters AND troll
feeders. Only about 10 people left! I know I've "killed" a few
posters that were knowledgeable and I admit, enjoyed reading their
post when it applied to...

Why haven't rental rates come back down? by
Dallas
Why didn't rental rates come back down with the price of fuel?
Renters saw major increases in rates during the fuel price run up. After
the oil bubble burst my FBO dropped their rates a tiny fraction as the
price of fuel dropped back down to where it used to be. When I asked what
was going on...

Going through ATL by
[email protected]
I will be flying down to the NASCAR race in Atlanta on March 14th. For
those of you who have flown out of races, it is a pain in the butt to get an
IFR clearance and get out of the airport quickly. By far, the best way is
to take off VFR and try to file and get a clearance in the air. The...

Women are better pilots than men by
Nathalie Hutt
Men are too dumb to fly, they will think of their penises all the time
and crash into mountains.Women are far more skilled and not driven by
small "joysticks".

What skills atrophy first? by
Michael 182
Flew today for the first time in two months. I'm a 1000 hour pilot, so it's
not as if I'm starting from scratch, but I really felt slow on every
thinking step. Had to refer to checklists to remember all the preflight,
startup, takeoff drills, which made me wonder what I had forgotten on
emergency...

best way into D.C. ? by
Guy Elden Jr.
Hi all...
I'm planning on flying down to D.C. from northern NJ in a couple of weeks,
and was wondering which airport down there is the best these days? I know
College Park is the most ideal, but unfortunately it's still not accessible
by transient aircraft. Basically, I need the closest airport...

More Blackbird Trivia by
Jay Honeck
After our last discussion about the SR-71 Blackbird, a debate ensued as to
whether the Blackbird actually overflew Soviet airspace, in direct violation
of the agreement the U.S. signed with the U.S.S.R. after the Francis Gary
Powers incident. This agreement forbade overflights.
I was under the...

Anyone got an FCC radio license by
Robert M. Gary
Has anyone here bothered to get the FCC radio license? I've been going
down to Mexico for awhile and have never heard of anyone down there
ever being asked for one (the officials in Mexico don't even know what
it is).
Has anyone ever heard of anyone being asked for it in Canada?
I'm just wondering...

Flying from Washington state to Canada by
Ross Oliver
I am planning my first international flight from the Seattle area to
Port Hardy, BC, Canada during the week of July 4th. I have bought all
the relavent Canadian charts (VFR and IFR), and have Googled for previous
discussions on flying in Canada. However, I would appreciate any
tips on the actual...

Freelance CFIs and plane rentals?? by
Sam
I posted a message awhile back about one of my relatives offering me
free flight instruction. He's a very experienced airline pilot and
has done a lot of CFI work in the past. He's still current on his CFI
rating, and the plan is to begin training in June (when I have more
money and he has more...

More Aviation Videos by
Jay Honeck
Had some time to kill this afternoon, so I uploaded 18 (yep, EIGHTEEN) new
aviation videos to our website.
These have been sent to me by folks from all over the world. Everything
from video of a new helicopter owner who tried to take 'er for a spin
without the bother of flight lessons (oops!), to...

Can anyone explain what TFR's are supposed to do? by
Corky Scott
I haven't figured out why TFR's exist. How are they supposed to
protect the President and/or whatever else?
Does the Secret Service and the FAA really think that just having a
"no flight activity" within an imaginary circle sixty miles across
will really stop a determined assailant?
Besides,...

Wright aircraft by
Big John
Attention everyone.
On CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, there was a 'trailer' tonight
announcing that on the CBS Evening News tomorrow (Thursday Night)
there would be section on the Wright's and their airplane(s).
I plan on watching and seeing what they put on.

Flying and the New Family by
Marco Leon
Hi all. I've noticed a considerable decrease in flight hours since my son
was born a little over a year ago. My wife is also 5 months pregnant with
another so flying time may suffer further decline. I'm wondering...what are
some of your experiences during the life-changing event of a new family...

$#@! TSA requirements by

We just got back from a Caribbean cruise, so now I can say that I have taken
that dam ship to Hell (the Maasdam, to be specific). I was most disappointed
that Martin Hotze was not in Hell. I was told he was away on assignment.
Against all my previous resolutions, we flew commercial down to...

Why 28V DC? by
Bob Martin
I'm working in the avionics integration test facility at Gulfstream...
one of the engineers had a question for me (being an airplane person
instead of an electrical/computer guy) that I couldn't answer... why
do airplanes use 28V DC systems (or 14V)? He says most industrial
applications use 24V...

PPL question payment for flight by
john price
Well.. maybe not... If you fly 2 people someplace and drop them
off, that tends to be viewed a little differently than you and your
buddies flew someplace, hung out together, then flew back...
This operation sounds like an air-taxi service and that you just
might be "holding out" (i.e. advertising...
