How close would Hawaii have to be for pilots to vacation there in light
airplanes?

Security in the USA by
Cockpit Colin
I'm curious ...
What do you folks in the USA think the answer to the big "question" is, when
it comes to things like security of the whitehouse?
What's best ...
(a) Increase the radius of the no-fly zones to give greater protection
against faster aircraft?

Renter's Insurance? by
Mortimer Schnerd, RN
How many of you guys carry renter's insurance? I never have in the past but I'm
older and wiser now and have been thinking about it. Specifically, that offered
through AOPA.
How much hull insurance is necessary? I'm pretty sure the FBO insures their
aircraft but surely there's a deductible I...

Seattle advice by
CJ
Hello,
My wife and I are spending five nights in Seattle between July 4th and July
8th (leaving Saturday, July 9th). Since we're driving in on the fourth, we
basically have the 5th through the 8th as full days to explore. We have to
spend one day on the Olympic Penninsula (fond memories for my...

Rent plane from another private pilot? by
GEG
I'm about 15 flight hours along in flight training.
My buddy is about 30 hours along and rounding the bend.
He's going to buy a plane - just part of his overall goal.
So here's a question:
(Let's assume I get a my PPL and checkout in the plane
and everything is cool .. .)

interstate runnways? by
zaphod
OK, This sounded a little strange to me, but during lunch today with some
co-workers, someone asked if I knew of some rules regarding interstate
construction. They had heard a bit of trivia that claimed that an
interstate highway must have sections that are straight, level, and long
enough for a...

Comanche accident averted last evening by
[email protected]
Just another day of flying in the bay area yesterday - or so I thought.
It was past 7:45 pm. Beautiful evening sunset. Winds 330@12. No gusts.
No turbulence. I was on my third touch and go. A Comanche was inbound
and cleared to land on RWY31. I was cleared for the option (number two)
and requested...

3rd Class Medical - Jump Through Hoops? by
GEG
I'm a student pilot. I went for my first medical today.
There were 3 issues.
1 regarding Lasik - which he had a form to fill out from my
opthamologist. Fine.
The second regarded a prescription for Bextra, which I use
for occasional "flare ups" on my hip (I'm only 37 but have
some hip troubles from...

Flight Times by
[email protected]
I really don't know anything about flying, and at times am terrified on
a commercial airliner (something about turbulence...)
Anyway, I do enjoy flight sims and would like to work through the
FS2004 training and then move onto X-Plane. I know this isn't
realistic, but I will have a better...

Push to Talk Switch by
Jackal24
I need to get a push to talk switch for the Cessna's I rent now. I have
noticed that they are very expensive for what they are (a switch). Is it
legal to build my own from Radio Shack type parts? If so, does someone have
the specs?

A beginner's doubt on jet engines by
Ramapriya
I know that a car's engine needs to be mated to the transmission for
propulsion. This I know isn't the case with an aircraft with a jet
engine; if the engine is turned on without the brakes applied, the jet
of air leaving the engine will hurl the craft forward.
My doubt is, why does this forward...

Wingtip Vortex: Heavy, Clean, Slow - Why? by
Eric Nospam
You get the strongest wingtip vortices when an aircraft is flying heavy,
clean and slow. But why?
It has to do with the amount of lift being generated by the wing. HEAVY I
can understand. Heavier aircraft - you need more lift to keep it aloft.
But CLEAN? SLOW? Why do you get less vortex with...

Bad place to stall by
Stubby
Suppose you are in the final quarter of a loop maneuver, looking at the
ground. Your speed is high and you are pulling back hard to bring the
plane back to level. Can that result in a stall?
