Beech duchess comments? by
[email protected]
I've contemplating buying my first plane.
C182 is almost perfect for what Iwant to do with the plane.
alas the last few flights have had some significant overwater legs.
CRQ-AVX-SBA
I also want to be able to comfortably return home after dark.
Thus I was thinking about a light twin, something...

Congress Examines Pilot Medical Record Fraud by

CONGRESS EXAMINES PILOT MEDICAL RECORD FRAUD
(http://www.avweb.com/eletter/archives/avflash/910-full.html#195656)
Does the FAA need to do more to ensure that pilots are not lying
about dangerous medical problems so they can keep their
certification? That's the question that was...

got a call from BDR FSS by
Kevin Clarke
I'll try to make this long story brief.
On 7/29 I filed via DUATS an IFR departure from KFIT to KBHB via ENE.
This was at 1200Z. My proposed time off was 1500z. My morning went
quicker so when I got to the airport I called BDR FSS on the RCO 118.025
and amended my time off for 1300Z and filed...

Fuel selector question by
es330td
Sorry if this is dumb (I am only at 8.3 hours toward my PPL)...
In the email I got from AOPA ePilot training tips today there is a
discussion of fuel starvation that makes regular mention of the fuel
selector switch. All my flying is done in a CE172 and the first and
last time I worry about the...

Rental Checkride? by
Dallas
I was just checking the rental terms at an FBO in the city I plan to visit
over Christmas.
I've got most of my hours in the type I wanted to rent and the FBO said
they want 3 takes offs and landings, then a power on and power off stall.
They charge the time to do this as dual.
I can see 20...

GA Callsigns by
Marco Leon[_5_]
We were always taught to refer to ourselves on the radio with our full
callsigns until ATC refers to us with a shortened callsign (i.e. the last
three characters). However, I've noticed that the majority of the approach
controllers refer to most of the GA aircraft as "November" followed by their...

More flaps? by

I watched the terrible carsh

I was wondering, after he got on the backside of the power curve and
committed to flight, could he have recovered it by putting out more
flaps?
Cheers

Mx is now forging other peoples monikers - beware! by
CRaSH
Mx has forged my moniker on several postings in the sim group, so if you see
someone post something uncharacteristic for that particular individual,
check it out before jumping on them. Mx has a really tough time replicating
a normal human being, so it usually sticks out...

Autopilot fighting for control by
Mxsmanic
In simulation, if I set the autopilot to maintain the altitude, and
then try to change pitch with the controls, the control surfaces
barely move, and I can hardly have any effect on pitch.
I think this is a limitation of the simulator. My guess is that, in
real life, the autopilot continuously...

Soreness after flights, and rudders by
Mxsmanic
Does flying leave you sore if you haven't flown in a while or if you
are new to flying? I'm thinking of muscle fatigue from being in an
unusual position for long periods, and in particular I'm wondering if
keeping one's feet on rudder pedals for hours at a time leads to any
soreness afterwards. ...

Air taxi vs. Charter or Part 135 by
Dan
All,
What's the difference between "Air Taxi" and Charter or Part 135
operations? While tracking some flights via FlightAware, I notice that
some planes fly under their tail numbers most of the time, but at times
there is a "T" prefixed to the tail number in the system. I read that
this...

Girls and flying -- an interesting experience with the Kiwi by

We witnessed an interesting thing last night, and it gives me hope for
the future of GA.
Becca, our middle-school-aged daughter, threw a little Christmas party
for friends, and held it in our hotel meeting room/theater, with the
idea that they'd all watch a movie after listening to music and...

Oil on the windshield. What would you do? by
Tony Cox
Here's a question that anyone with a single
engine, constant speed prop might have to
deal with sometime.
You're cruising along happily when suddenly
oil drops start appearing on the windshield. There
is no "bang" or anything else to indicate catastrophic
failure. The nearest airport is out of...
