LINDBERGH FOUNDATION GRANT GOES TO ENGINE INNOVATOR
(http://www.avweb.com/eletter/archives/avflash/919-full.html#195734)
Pilots of older aircraft worry about the future availability of 100LL
avgas, and environmentalists are not happy with the ecological impact
of leaded fuel. To satisfy both...

Another red letter day in Iowa by
Jay Honeck
Yesterday...
- Our 17-year-old son passed his written exam for the private...and
scheduled his private pilot checkride...
- The medical examiner foolishly extended my flight privileges for
another 24 months...
We didn't get to go flying, but all in all, not a bad day...

How to break your Garmin 396 by
Dan Luke
Just let battery run down with the USB XM weather antenna connected.
I did this to see how much battery life I would get with the screen set
at half brightness (5+ hours), but when I reconnected external power,
the unit begin an endless series of re-boots, never getting past the "I
agree" lawyer...

Help Landing a Diamond DA-20 by
[email protected]
I'm a new student learning with a DA-20. Got most things mastered
except for the landings...most important, no? haha
Seems that most of my landings and I have only tried 9 times thus far
are not very well executed. My CFI sez that I am doing two things
wrong:
1) I am flaring too late.
2) When I...

AeroStar Fuel system? by
Al G[_1_]
Could someone fill me in on the Aerostar fuel system? The one in
question is a 602P.
IIRC, Ted Smith designed it as a "Leave it alone and burn all the fuel
in the airplane" type system.
But wasn't there a lawsuit over one years ago?

100 LL Replacement? by
Dave[_5_]
I came across an interesting set of slides that go into considerable
technical detail about the problems of coming up with a replacement
for 100LL. The conclusion: Avgas 91/96UL (Unleaded), as apparently now
available in Sweden. Check it out:...

Prior to getting my RV-6A I had perhaps 250 hours over 20 plus
years. My cross country experience was limited. I did not like to talk
to ATC. I had never...

I just decided to go back to Free Agent after a too-long absence and,
alas, Forte has discontinued it to focus on their money-generating
options.
I looked at X News which sounds great, I was just wondering what
ya'll
use and like (BESIDES Google, thanks) before plunging into a
download.
OH - I...

Happy Birthday by
James Sleeman
The Cessna 150 prototype first flew on September 12, 1957
(source:wikipedia).
With so many pilots having had thier training in a C150 or 152, I
think it's fair to remark on the fact that the 150 turns 50 Years
young today.
Will it still be flying in another 50?

Post air pictures on usenet. by

I've changed my gallery and now there are direct links towards the
pictures in the gallery. Thus, if you want to show a picture and don't
have your web page, as long as it is an air picture, you can use the
gallery to make it available on the net, then post the link to access
it.
Try these ones...

Air France Flt 358 vs. thunderstorms by
[email protected]
I've read several reports online re the Air France crash at Toronto
that there were thunderstorms in the vicinity (one account said "right
over the airport") If so I'm curious why the captain didn't divert or
hold away from the storm until it passed (fuel status?). If there was a
storm nearby that...

Wow, amazing, huge, inspiring, impressive, and a must see for any aviation

The list of planes on display is unreal. F22 Raptor, B1, B2, B52, B36, huge
array of the F100 series fighters, B29, B17.... the WWII display is great,
not only does it cover the US fighters but it includes many...

folding bicycle - Cardinal RG by

I am planning to buy a folding bicycle for use in Vicky (N2679V -
Cardinal RG '75).
Eventually there will be two bicycles, his and hers. Occasional use
for trips up to 5 or 10 miles in moderate hills, no mountain biking,
no centuries. More than three speeds would be nice but I don't know...

Embarrasing Flight by

Yesterday a coworker and I decided to fly out to Lancaster PA to their

was our first time flying together, but we did do the ATOP course at
Continental as a team. We decided that we would rent a plane from my
FBO and that we...
