AFSS response time by
[email protected]
Has anyone else noticed that the time you're on hold to talk to a briefer is
getting longer and longer? I noticed this about a year ago when I still
lived in Florida and thought it was just a local problem. Now I live in
Virginia and they have the same problem here. It used to be you could get...

$640.00 to fill the tanks... by
Jay Honeck
The fact that this hotel was built entirely with taxpayer's money, by
the City of Coralville, might surprise you.
You know, after reading your post an hour or so ago, I have gotten more and
more ****ed-off. Since when does a government have the right to tinker in
direct competition...

Gentle take-offs at high speed by
Mxsmanic
Is there any harm in taking off at a relatively high speed and very
gently? There seems to be plenty of runway in most cases for small
aircraft. If I leave the ground at 120 kts instead of the normal
rotation speed, I find that I can lift off ever so gently. Plus I
have lots of airspeed if...

Is it just me, or is there a full moon out or something?!?!
Between RADICALLY wild posts about gay marriage and nuking the Middle East,
and Belfort Instruments guy with more idiot posts in the last few days than
usual, I think there must be full moon out, and everyone is going looney.

Crosswind landing control.. by
Dan
All,
When touching down in a crosswind, after the mains and the nosewheel
have all touched down firmly and are rolling, would it be proper
procedure to apply slight forward pressure to get better steering from
the nosewheel? Often, noseweel steering seems ineffective, and this
seems to have...

New Plan -- Going to Kill Devil Hills by
Jay Honeck
Looking at the prog charts for the next several days, Texas looks like
a mess. Moderate to heavy rains, thunderstorms, yuck. Our plan to
head south on Sunday is scrubbed.
So, we're looking at heading to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina instead.
The progs look great for at least three or four days, and...

Got My Ticket today!!!! by
CareBear
After an additional 5.5 hours practicing forward slips to a landing and soft
field landings, I got my ticket today. I will admit it is exciting to
finally get your ticket checking to see if it's truly mine, yep, has my
name on it.
Now that the "pressure" is off, I plan to just fly and...

Student practices landing with gear up by
steve
Bummer,
I had the Arrow reserved with the flight center I use, for next week and for
a couple of days in August.
They just sent me an email stating that a student pilot from the flight
center they share it with, landed it with the gear up. How embarrassing,
especially since the plane has an...

How safe is a new teenaged pilot? by
anon
Our 17 year old son want to fly as a passenger with his 17 year old friend who
is a brand new pilot. We think the boy is level-headed and mature. He grew up
flying with his dad who is a retired test pilot for an aircraft manufacturer.
These credentials not withstanding, I'm guessing that there...

My Ground Loop by
Reid & Julie Baldwin
I have heard it said that there are two types of tailwheel pilots: those
that have ground looped and those that will. A week ago, I graduated from
the latter category into the former category. There was no shirt ripping
ceremony for this milestone. Fortunately, there was also no torn flesh or
bent...

Angel Flight by
George
I was thinking about jointing/volunteering for Angel Flight of Oklahoma as a
pilot. Would a low time VFR pilot be of any use to them? I have 190 hr soon to
be 200hr, when we get some good flying weather. I have flown only 3 times since
November. Because VFR flying is unreliable, I wonder if I...
