All smoke no fire by Bart
With all the heated debate over trival issues that I've seen in this newsgroup, I have to say I'm really disappointed with what I'm seeing as response to a real issue that affects the value of operating a helicopter in the US. Maybe you guys don't understand the impact of the proposed rule...

Aux power by Bart
Anyone know where I can get the Aux power cannon plug (J217) for a Jetranger / OH58? Its a male two pin cylindrical job that plugs in at the base of pedestal on the copilots side and is intended to provide power to a Chadwick or aux radio. TIA, Bart

Need Turbine Time? by Bart
Subject to the WX, I'm ferrying a Jet Ranger from Key West to Cleveland on Thursday 05/06/04 at 06:30EST and my left seat is currently open. If you're interested, have a rotorcraft comm/cfi, weigh less than 190ish, and can get to Key West in time. Send a mail message to Chopper3LW on yahoo.com....

Transition from high time Rotorcraft to stuck wing. by Bart
If all you've ever flown (seriously) is helicopters and 99.99% of your time is in turbines, how hard is it to transition to fixed wing? (not asking FARs, just practical stuff) Bart

The Schwiezer crash in Texas by Bart
Anybody hear what caused the engine out in that? The video was pretty spectactular. The pilots were interviwed on TV, and from my perspective the PIC did a pretty nice job given the amount of wires he had to navigate around. Bart

Dubya / Kill Devil Hills irony by Bart
I'm watching the President's speech on CNN now at Kill Devil Hills. The fact that there's a _huge_ TFR surrounding the area bothers me a little. I wonder is he's really aware of how much impact he had on GA and the people trying to get in and out of there. I did notice that unlike the routine...

206B3 hydraulic failure by Bart
Enroute to maintenance for another matter yesterday I was cruising at 80% and about 110kts when I noticed that I didn't seem to have hydraulics in the upper-right to lower-left direction on the cyclic, but movement from upper-left to lower right required no effort. Hyd Switch was on , so I popped...

206BIII on Fixed Float Q's by Bart
I've been seriously considering building a Jetranger to be on fixed floats to accomplish some stuff I cant do easily another way. I've read through the ammendment to the Flight Manual for them, and talked to some mechanics that worked on them, and I have a burning question that's go/no go . The...

4th of July thoughts (for those residing in the US) by Bart
Mark Twain Said: No man's life, liberty, or property are safe while the congress is in session. Ben Franklin said: They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

TFR not right IMO by Bart
I was getting ready to go today and noticed that there were two new TFR's for me to avoid. One of them closed a regional airport, and the other a few miles away to the northwest. I saw the words "Secret Service" and figured #1 or #2 was gonna be in town. I did a news search and found out that the...

Trikes vs Fixed Wing U/L vs Gyros by BARTFIO
Does anyone here have experience in all three of these type a/c? I would like to know which of the 3 would handle cross winds best and which has a safer overall operational record. So far, I've read that the gyro is better with crosswinds (ref Dr. Taggart) than even some factory fixed wings. I...
