Airport/Hangar Home by
Jeff
I am trying to buy a piece of property that will allow me to have a
3000' (or so) grass runway. We would build a house on the property
that would be our only residence. I have been looking around for some
home plans that incorporate a hangar attached to the home, but have not
had much success. I...

RAH has become BORING... no one with any interesting posts or questions.
BWB has been gone for well over a year and hadn't posted for a long time
before that but NO ONE has stepped up and filled the gap.
I know Billy had ****ed off a lot of people but at least he got people
thinking and...

Tach Attack by
Ron Wanttaja[_2_]
A month or so back, I asked about re-setting the reading of a standard
aircraft tach to reflect the time the airplane spent with a temporary
replacement.
Unfortunately, as it turns out, there was nothing wrong with my
tach...or with the tach cable. The tach-drive section on the engine
itself...

ZZzz Campbell Lawsuits Dismissed ZZzz by
Ron Wanttaja
Jim "Captain Zoom" Campbell and ANN entered 2007 with three ongoing lawsuits.
By the end of the year, all were dismissed. Most of the action occurred over
the past five months, and I've held off posting updates since things have been
fluid. It's been a month since the last court order, so the...

Steve Fossett missing? by
Rob Turk[_2_]
CNN reports Steve Fossett is missing.
"
Fossett took off from a private air strip known as Flying M Ranch, near
Smith Valley, 30 miles south of Yerington, Nevada, on Monday, with enough
fuel for four to five hours of flight, according to the Civil Air Patrol.
Yerington is south of Carson City,...

1966 C-172 For Auction by
Victor Bravo
I have listed another aircraft on ebay for one of my airport
naighbors, this one is a 1966 Cessna 172G with 795 SMOH, in annual and
ready to fly right now. This is NOT a show quality plane, it DOES have
major damage history, and it AIN'T perfect. It is not embarrassing in
any way, it's just a cheap...

Towing to the airport by
[email protected]
I'm looking to tow my plane to the airport. I've seen aircraft towed
on their own wheels. I called the local police department and they
said I had to use a trailer. Does anyone know the "road rules" for
towing aircraft to the airport?
I tried googling for federal or state (Maine) regulations...

Have you guys ever noticed the void? by
Stealth Pilot
I look at all the plans on offer for building aircraft and not one of
them ever includes any of the structural calculations.
Dont you guys ever feel totally unnerved by the fact that you have no
real idea of just where the strengths and weaknesses lie in a design?
If you cock up something during...

Homebuilding Killed John Walton by
Carl
I just read in the newspaper that John Walton, the billionaire son of
Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton, was killed in a homebuilt airplane? That
got me thinking to look for a NG that might be dedicated to this
activity, and I found this one.
This is all new to me, quite honestly, and disturbing. ...

EAA Board Of Directors (Here We Go Again) by
RST Engineering
I sort of feel like the Harold Stassen of the EAA election process, but here
we go again.
In 1997, I ran for the EAA Board Of Directors and got some 700 of you to
email me your proxies. The vote was 700 to 35,000 for the proxies that EAA
held for the current board member candidate. (I ran in...

LED / Nav lights by

Recently I posted some questions regarding this issue. After some
experimentation, it appears that LEDs and inexpensive strobes are indeed
a feasible option for experimental a/c.
Following a presentation at our recent EAA meeting, our most senior DAR
liked the mock-ups so well that he will...

Pulse jet active sound attentuation by
Jay
In an earlier post I read somewhere that the pulse jet is a device
that converts fuel into noise. Someone else had suggested firing 2
engines 180 degrees out of phase with each other to cancel the sound.
If the 2 engines were stacked one over the other, then you might
actually be able to cancel a...

Preheating schemes? by
Michael Horowitz
I'd be interested in any schemes you may have developed for
pre-heating your engine.
One idea I heard was to use flex ducting to direct car exhaust into
the cowling; that does present CO concerns, but on could leave the a/c
doors open. - Mike

Q. Canadian Homebuilt: Fire Extinguishers - Halon by

Hello All,
This question is regarding Canadian regulatory issue with importing a Halon
fire extinguisher.
I'm building an RV and am considering fire extinguisher options. Was about
to buy a Halon 1211 2lb fire extinguisher on ebay until I looked up the
legalities of importing it to Canada. Seems...

Why are low-revving, high torque engines preferred? by
Oliver Arend
This may sound like a stupid question; I realize the prop can only
turn at a certain speed to avoid transonic effects at the tips and has
to be turned with a certain torque to transmit the power needed/
produce enough thrust. So far so good.
But why does the torque have to be produced by the...
