'73 Piper Charger by
Kobra
Flyers,
A friend of mine is an executor of an estate that is selling a pristine 1973
Piper Charger (PA28-235) for sale if anyone is thinking of buying. It has
a great useful load of 809 lbs. with full fuel or 1013 lbs. if you leave the
auxiliary tanks empty. Contact me for photos if...

TRM Avionics -- Chillicothe OH (Ross County airport KRZT) by
Richard Kaplan
Has anyone used TRM Avionics in Chillicothe OH?
I am planning a major upgrade to my panel and they came in with a very
competitive bid. References from past customers would be helpful.

Why small radius collects ice faster? by
Andrew Sarangan
Is there an explanation for why small radii objects collect ice
faster? The NASA icing video simply states this fact without giving an
explanation. I have found the same with most other sources as well.

Why an NDB approach with a miss to an intersection? by
Ben Jackson
What's the point of the CVO NDB 17? It's an off-airport NDB approach
to a runway that also has ILS, VOR and GPS approaches, all with lower
minimums. Like all but one other approach (a GPS approach from the
south) it has a missed approach that takes you to an intersection hold
about 9 miles to the...

Does an IPC count as a BFR? by
Larry Jenkins
Okay, I've read the regulations and still can't figure out the answer to
this question: If I received an IPC from a CFII one year after my last BFR,
do I need to get another BFR in 12 months or 24 months from now??
Thanks in advance,
Larry

Radar contact before squawk by
David Brooks
I learned something Friday night while getting in some night solo time. I
called Whidbey Approach for a few minutes of flight following and possibly
clipping their Class C, and the controller annonced radar contact, and then
issued a squawk. I hadn't given my position (I wasn't too sure where I...

Report Leaving Assigned Altitude? by
John Clonts
1) "N7NZ, cleared direct BMQ cruise 7000". Do I report subsequent descents?
E.g. "leaving 7000 descending 5000"? Then later "leaving 5000 descending
2000"?
2) Its VMC and I'm IFR to Temple, level at 5000. At 25 miles out I report
Temple in sight. "N7NZ cleared visual approach to Temple, remain...

IFR training material overload by
Brian H
Hi All,
I've been snooping the rec.aviation.* groups for a while, and I'm
still lost.
I want to start studying for my IFR rating. I'm from the US, resident
in Japan, and so I reckon on studying on my own then taking the test
on some trip back to the states one day. I've seen a variety...

ATC Careers -- Question for Newps or Chip by
Tom Sixkiller
My youngest daughter is graduating high school this May, and is looking to
do a GWBush by joining the Air National Guard. The job she's most interested
in is Air Traffic Controller. She's also contemplating doing AFROTC at the
same time (don't think she can do ROTC while being in ANG).
I _assume_...

Air Tour Virtual Meeting by
Jim
I'm asking everyone in the group to please take the time to visit the FAA
site and post a comment or two on the proposed National Air Tour Safety
Standards Public Meeting.
I was just there and disappointed in the lack of comments.

Dreaded IPC by
Dan Luke
Ran into my CFII the other day in the FBO parking lot. I see him once
in a while around the airport, but I've flown with him only a couple of
times since I got the rating six years ago. After telling me one of his
corny jokes, he asked me how long it had been since I had an IPC. I
told him I'd...

IFR on the Fly by
O. Sami Saydjari
Let's say your 15 miles from your home airport in VMC, not on a flight
plan. You know the area well. On your way, unforecast conditions
(snow) causes visibility to start dropping below 3 miles. Ceilings are
at 1800. You are just below the ceiling. You know the area well enough
to do a contact...

Briefing an approach plate, especially while flying by
Peter R.
My approach plate briefing, especially while flying, could use some
improvement. I received my instrument rating last March and have about 75
hours of actual IMC time since then, but I honestly feel my briefing of the
chart is not as thorough as it must be for optimum situational awareness.
I am...

Holds for currency requirements by
Paul Tomblin
I recently did 6 approaches to get back current again, but I forgot to
do a hold. My last hold was less than 6 months ago, so I'm still legal
for a few more days. What counts as a hold to fit that vaguely worded
requirement?
- A self-assigned hold while flying solo VFR in VMC?
- A self-assigned...
