News server and software by Kobra[_6_]
Flyers, My ISP (comcast) just discontinued it's usenet service. How do most of you get on the newsgroups if your ISP does not provide newsgroup service? I am now in Google Groups using internet explorer. It's really clunky compared to using Outlook Express. The threads are not held together...

Seneca V vs. Navajo operating costs by Jarema
Hello, From your own experience, could you tell me approx. direct hour cost for Navajo and Seneca V? Is Navajo much more expensive than Seneca? Any comments about Seneca's anti-ice system? And another question: Is buying Seneca V from 1997 with about 650hours

Issues around de-ice on a 182 by Andrew Gideon
One of the members of my club has proposed that we add TKS de-ice to our two 182s. Apparently, such a system is to become available later this year. My reaction at first was negative. After all, in our near-NYC location, the utility of such a tool is limited to a few months a year. Surely we...

New Planes from old companies by Dude
Okay, its getting boring so, here is a new twist on an old subject. Beech and Cessna have recently seen HUGE increases in demand for aircraft with the G1000 cockpits. Will this cause them to rethink the introduction of a new piston design to compete with the new players? If so, how long till you...

Slaving autopilot to a VOR? by Jay Honeck
My autopilot (2-axis, Piper) is hooked up to my DG, via a "heading bug." Otherwise, it's just a wing leveler. I've been told that this autopilot has the capability of being connected to my VORs. Can anyone outline what's involved with connecting the two? Thanks! --

486 vs GDL69a by TF
Decision time. Do I go for a panel mounted GDL69a in my 77 Mooney (MX20) for a big price tag. Or do I do the cheap and cheerful 486 portable route ? Seems on a cost basis that the 486 is the choice . Why wouldn't you ? I like the integrated approach for the neatness factor. No wires...

Newsgroups and Email by Jim Weir
Hey, fellers... I was always taught that if a subject started in the newsgroups, it STAYED in the newsgroups. Lately it seems more and more that in answer to some aviation thread in these groups, I'm getting an email request for more information. Please, if it starts in these groups, let's KEEP...

Lesson in Glass by JimC
Okay, I just found a way to avoid the silly mistake that I made. LPAero will mail to you, for free, small pieces of window material so that you can compare with your current installation and determine best match. At my next flight physical I'll have to let the AME know what great 20/20 hindsight...

As written, this NPRM would generate $31,000,000 every three years for the FAA, and you'd be paying it out: http://www.aopa.org/aircraft/articles/2008/080229registration.html Aircraft registration proposal* hints at cost-based user fees By AOPA ePublishing staff In an effort...

Buy a damaged airplane by [email protected]
Almost bought an airplane. Talked to the guy over the phone. He's brokering it for someone else. Asked him about damage history. No damage history, he said. Now, one thing I always do before I go to see an airplane is I check the NTSB database. Actually, I do this before I call the owner so I...

Banner Towing Information ? by ForFun177
I currently own 3 early model Cessna 182's (2 182A's, 1 182B) I'm interested in having one or two of them set up to tow banners. They are currently jump planes, and I'd like to use them part time to advertise my business. Can anyone point me to a company that makes the tow hooks for the 182's, and...

Skyhawk versus Archer? by Joe
Wanted to ask the group for their pro's/cons between the Cessna Skyhawk and Piper Archer 180. 1) What particular year models are more desired than others 2) Which one is easier to re-sell, and which one has more profit potential? 3) Easier to maintain?

Bendix King's worthless GPS loader software by Ryan Ferguson
Okay, it's not actually totally worthless, because I DID manage to update my KLN-94 GPS database via an internet download and the gps loader software available on the bendixking.com website. But it's kinda close to worthless in my opinion. First, I have to comment and say that the Bendix King...

leaning in climb by Matt
Hi everyone. I have a leaning question. The POH for my 152 says that the mixture should be leaned to best power after passing 3000 feet in the climb. However in other places in the POH (and the Lycoming site) they say not to lean when at 75% power or higher in cruise. My question: Is the...

KX-170B + KI-214 Will a MX170B operate the G/S by Roy Page
I have a 1977 Piper Archer II with a KX-170B. and KI-214 indicator. I understand that the G/S receiver is built into the KI-214. If I replace the KX-170B with a Michel MX-170B will the G/S and Localizer work OK with it ? As an aside I am a Radio Amateur who has built and operated radio...
