Newbie question on relationships between TT, TBO and SMOH by
H.P.
If a plane (C172S) has 1600 TT but is at 250 hrs SMOH on an original engine
that's spec'd for 2000hrs TBO, does this mean that the engine went in for
overhaul prematurely? For what possible reason and how would I find out?

Cell phone headset adapter? by
Alan
Yes, I want to talk on my cell phone, listen to Flight Watch and
fiddle with the sectionals all at once! Well, maybe one at a time.
I've seen ads for these guys with prices ranging from $19.95 to $170.
Anyone have any experience with these and/or a recommendation?
Thanks.

O-360 takeoff power fuel flow question by
argon39
Hello
I'm looking for real-world data on full-rich, full-throttle takeoff
power fuel flow for Lycoming O-360 engines.
I have a C-172K conversion (Lyc O-360-A1A, Hartzell c/s prop and
PowerFlow tuned exhaust). The POH supplementals for the conversion are
a bit terse, but indicate that takeoff fuel...

Updated Oshkosh Frequencies by
RST Engineering
I just had an email from a feller that used my Oshkosh frequency list and he
said:
133.85 and 126.6 both seem to be used by the Warbirds Airboss. Those
will let you know when explosions are coming.
If anybody has any more updates, I'm ready to take them and refresh the
list.

Odd VSI behavior at higher altitudes by
Nathan Young
I have a PA28-180. Whenever the winds allow, I like to fly at high
altitudes. On my last few flights, I have noticed that the VSI tends
to show a slight descent when I am at high altitude. The altimeter
will stay constant/steady (as does my Mode C readout). The VSI does
not exhibit this...

Simple Green Aircraft Cleaner by
Dan Luke
They were giving away free samples at their booth at OSH and I brought
some home, a 32-oz. spray bottle. This afternoon I tried it on my
airplane.
Wow.
This stuff is amazing. I hadn't touched the belly of '87D in nearly a
year, and it was absolutely filthy with 140+ hours of oil and...

Piper SB No 836 (alluminum wire replacement) by
Mike Noel
I need to replace the aluminum wiring in my Archer with new copper cables.
Spruce is selling Bogart replacement cables for $289 which seems a bit steep
for the amount of cable and connectors involved. I understand Piper has a
description of the parts and technique for doing the replacement, but...

Engine over TBO at purchase by
DHead
Hi group.
I am interested in buying a Sundowner with 2035 TT E&A.
The owner (actually the broker) offered to allow $5K off the asking price to
have the engine O/H'd.
I am a student pilot and very much want this particular airplane, but I
don't think that $5K off a $14K O/H is reasonable.
The...

Advice on periodic voltage fluctuation - C172 by
argon39
Recently I have noted an in-flight system voltage fluctuation in my
C-172K. The fluctuations are quasi-periodic, with an amplitude of about
0.4 volts and a period that varies between about 1.6 and 1.8 minutes.
The varations are contained within a band between 14.0/13.9 and
13.6/13.5 volts (the...

Digital OAT by
Jim Burns
Does anybody in the group have a digital OAT indicator?
We've just put a new single piece windshield in our plane and moved the
standard OAT gauge to the pilot's side window. Now we've decided to put all
new 1/4" side windows in and rather than drilling a hole through a brand new
window, I'd like...

JPI 800 & GMA 340 into C206 in EASA countries? by
Jouni Laukkanen
Hi!
My parachuting club has bought '75 Cessna 206 and is making complete
restoration for it. We would like to install JPI EDM 700/800 engine
multi-instrument and Garmin GMA 340 audio panel into it, but...
.... our national Civil Aviation Administration could handle/approve
these installations...

Lucky folks by
David Lesher
The only way I can describe yesterday's events at Pearson is "damn lucky"...
That's rather unfair -- everyone involved: the cabin crew, Airbus
designers, the folks who made the slides, you name it, all contributed
to a highly successful evac in less than stellar circumstances, but
still...damn...

questions re speed mods for cherokees by
Bob Noel
In a fit of insanity, I'm considering adding some speed mods to my
160hp cherokee 140.
For those that have Knots-2-U, LoPresti, or Laminarflow speed mods,
such as wing root seals, aileron seals, stabilator seals, flap hinge
fairings, I have some questions.
1) How have they stood up over...

Hangar space near Norman, OK? by

I'm going to be moving to Norman, Oklahoma in a few weeks, and need a place to hangar my Pietenpol. It seems that Westheimer (KOUN) is pretty full, and Perry (1K4) only seems to have open hangars available. Can anyone direct me towards some hangar space? Grass strips are fine, as are small...

OSH '05 Comments by

Another great OSH. The number and quality of the exhibits seems to
improve each year. I especially like the Miller Welding trailer. My
girlfriend even got to play with the plasma cutter, and she liked it
(maybe helping me justify a future purchase ;-)...
We met the MotoArt guys (from the now...
