Oil analysis:
Go see
http://www.sacskyranch.com/cancut2.htm and
http://www.sacskyranch.com/camshaft.htm for some interesting reading.
My Cheetah suffered from underuse before I bought it, and I was concerned
about rust and pitting on the cam. The basic "SOAP" (spectral) analysis
(~$20) will not find that, whereas a manual "ferrography" (~$120) might.
I checked with some local Vancouver AME fellows, and got two references. I
tried both as a check.
I used
www.wearcheck.ca in Toronto, and
www.fluidlife.com in Edmonton.
Both companies found the higher levels of rust I feared with a "ferrography"
analysis. The tech at Wearcheck was hard to reach (it was August) whereas
the tech at Fluid Life was accessable, and very helpful. Fluid Life emailed
nice color photos too, I can send them to you if you wish.
Buy some little 100cc prescription bottles at the local pharmacy (~35 cents
each) and send your samples by mail in little bubble paks. Don't tell them
you are sending nuclear waste.
Next round I will use only Fluid Life.
Cheers
Duane
