I generally agree with you Paul,

But I wonder how they would close it, without causing much grief in the
existing and entrenched Soaring community.

I'm not sure how they would differentiate between a Europa Long wing and a
Stemme, or a DG, or Grob etc. in the regs.
The Europa does quite well as a legitmate low--medium performance soaring
machine 200ft/min sink and L/D ~27/1

I'm especially interested because I can't get an Airman's Certificate
(take medication) so hope "Sport Pilot" certication will be available.
