Well, it's a certified yachting emergency life vest. They're the same ones
that sell in the aviation places for about £60-£80. :-) They are 150N vests,
the same as any other, manually inflatable. Some of the others have
additional features such as D-rings, harnesses designed to be winched by
a helicopter, etc, but inside they're basically the same.

There's a difference between the constant wear ones and the use once
ones. I've got a couple of ex-airline ones (out of date) that cost me $9
each. :-) Certified for aviation but a) they're out of date and b) they're
not suitable for putting round your neck each time you fly without wearing
out. The ones I mentioned come in a protective jacket so you can use
them (unactivated!) every time you fly over water.

Hi Paul
If you want cheap, I can probably find you even cheaper,
but what you are referring to is definitely not a certified aviation
lifevest. (And from the picture it doesn't even look as though it would
float an unconscious person face-up). When you are in the water,
promises and guarantees mean zip - it's too late - can you imagine using
that vest and floating, facedown - unconscious?. You need a lifevest
that will do the job right now - 10 out of 10 times.
I teach survival courses, and this year I spent a full day on an
underwater egress course. You do need the right lifevest in an aircraft.
Here is some good reading for you -

I bought from Aircraft Spruce.
They sell repackaged and recertified vests for about $45.00 instead of
the usual $250.00.

$250? Here in the UK you can get them for £24.67 + VAT new.
(£28.99 if you're buying from within the EU)
